Does your home have a cat superhighway?

cat_superhighway

The term “cat superhighway” was coined by Cat Daddy Jackson Galaxy. In most episodes of My Cat From Hell, you can watch him recommend some version of this environmental modification designed to give cats a way to traverse their indoor environment as if they were outdoors.

Cat superhighways are especially important in households with more than one cat. They give cats opportunities to share territory on more than one level, without bumping into each other and creating possible altercations.

A good cat superhighway includes the following elements:

  • multiple lanes offering alternate routes
  • on and off ramps
  • no dead ends
  • rest stops and lookout points

Allegra and Ruby love their Scratch Tower from Moderncat

One of the paws down best parts of this year’s BlogPaws conference in Salt Lake City, UT was the Catification Lounge, brought to us by Miss Moderncat Kate Benjamin and Cat Daddy Jackson Galaxy.

Picture an entire hotel ballroom full of cat furniture, cat toys, and other cat paraphernalia – the definition of paradise for cat lovers. Kate has some great photos of the lounge on Moderncat. Everything on display was given away to some very happy winners. I won a Moderncat Scratch Tower, which I had shipped since it was most definitely too big to fit into my suitcase.

Allegra and Ruby got very excited when I told them that the bix box that had just arrived was for them. As soon as I opened it, they both went to investigate. I had barely taken out the Scratch Tower when Allegra immediately put it to the test Continue Reading

BlogPaws 2012: Catification, cat bloggers and one very special cat

Moki_the_Wobbly_Cat

I spent the last three days in Salt Lake City, Utah with about 400 of my fellow pet bloggers at BlogPaws 2012. This was my second BlogPaws experience, and it was even better than last year’s conference in Tysons Corner, VA. From attending top-notch presentations by blogging and social media experts to networking with other bloggers, the weekend was a blur of learning, networking, and socializing.

But as was the case last year, the highlight of the conference for me was connecting and reconnecting with so  many of my blogging friends, including Robin Olson of Covered in Cat Hair, Stephanie Harwin of Catsparella, Joanne McGonagle of The Tiniest Tiger Conservation Cub Club, Tamar Arslanian of I Have Cat, Angie Bailey of Catladyland, Deb Barnes of The Chronicles of Zee and Zoey, Janea Kelley of Paws and Effect, Janiss Garza of  Sparkle Cat, Karen Nichols of Mousebreath, Debbie Glovatsky of Glogirly and so many others. I was especially delighted to finally get to meet Peter Wolf of Vox Felina.Continue Reading

Review and giveaway: Moderncat Stacks toys

Moderncat_Stacks_wool_toy

Allegra and Ruby got to be two of the first kitties to review the lastest creation from Miss Moderncat, Kate Benjamin: Stacks are colorful felt toys with unevenly stacked pieces, which give the toys great bounceability!

While the girls just love playing with their Stacks toy, I love that they’re made from 100% Merino wool, using leftover pieces from Moderncat’s popular Atomic Flyers. Nothing goes to waste at Moderncat Studio. The toys are sturdy and soft. We’ve only had ours for a few days, but it’s been kicked and chewed quite a bit, and I don’t even see any marks on it.
