I love advent calendars. They take me back to a time when I couldn’t wait for Christmas to get here, rather than feeling like the holiday season goes by much too fast. I always had an advent calendar as a child, and my parents went far beyond the store-bought calendars that contain a piece of chocolate behind each window. One year, they built a little house made out of match boxes that were like little drawers. Each “drawer” contained a small gift. Another year, my mom sewed a felt Christmas tree with little pockets that contained a gift for each day.
