Review: Writers and their Cats

This post contains affiliate links*

I’ve always felt that writers and cats are the purrfect combination. I’m not sure I could write anything worth publishing without the assistance of Allegra and Ruby, and I certainly never would have written Buckley’s Story or started The Conscious Cat if it hadn’t been for Buckley and Amber. Writers and Their Cats celebrates this special relationship.Continue Reading

How many photos and videos of your cats do you have on your computer, tablet and phone? I have several thousand photos of Allegra and Ruby on my computer, and I don’t ever want to lose those photos, and the memories that are attached to them. Thankfully, there are a lot of different options to keep cat photos and videos safe forever. I use multiple back up modalities: I back up to an external hard drive, to a thumb drive, and to cloud (online) storage.Continue Reading

Review: Metal Cats

Not too many people know that I like heavy metal music. Actually, I like pretty much every genre of rock, from classic to alternative to yes, heavy metal. But rock music and cats don’t always go together, especially since most cats don’t like loud noises (I make sure I only blast my music at top volume when I’m in my car, away from Allegra and Ruby’s sensitive ears.)  I definitely never thought I’d ever see a book that combines two of my loves: cats, and heavy metal music.

Metal Cats features photography by Alexandra CrockettContinue Reading

Animal Sympathy Cards from Portraits of Animals

“Each time I’ve lost a cat, I’ve gained something in my life—made decisions about my career, begun working in a new medium or style, found new friends. Perhaps the trauma of the loss caused me to see things from a new perspective, or it was a gift of gratitude from the cat I’d lost,” says animal artist and writer Bernadette E. Kazmarski.

She had determined years ago to design animal sympathy cards as most of the cards she’d received for her losses were not animal-specific, but wanted to make sure she had enough experience and perspective so she wouldn’t design something she’d later feel was incomplete or immature. One cat’s passing in 2009 gave her the space to follow through. As a fine artist as well as a commercial artist designing these cards was second nature. Continue Reading
