When it comes to litter boxes, cleanliness truly is next to godliness. Cats are fastidious creatures. Using a dirty litter box is, at best, uncomfortable for them, and at worst, will cause them to eliminate outside the box. And for a task that you’re going to be doing several times a day, it’s important to have tools that make it simple. The Litter-Lifter has been our scoop of choice for the past several years.
How often should you clean the litter box?
A dirty litter box, to a cat, is the same as a public restroom with unflushed toilets and toilet paper all over the floor is to us. How many times have you walked out of a restroom like that without using it, no matter how badly you needed to go?
Scoop at least twice a day. Refill the box with fresh litter as needed. At least once a month, empty out the entire box. Scrub it thoroughly with unscented soap and hot water. Do not use harsh, scented chemical cleaners, disinfectants or ammonia. Cats are very sensitive to scent, and any lingering detergent smells may deter them from using the box.
Litter-Lifter features
The Litter-Lifter™ features unique parallel triangular tines that only pick up solid waste, not clean litter. It comes in three sizes and a huge variety of colors. I use the smallest size, sold as the Travel model, because I find it easiest to maneuver in the corners of the box. The larger ones would probably make clean up even faster and would probably be a better choice if you have a lot of boxes to scoop.
Litter-Lifter Handy-Holder
The Handy-Holder helps you keep your scoop within easy reach. It can be attached to the side of the litter box, mounted on the wall, or placed on the floor or a shelf. A word of caution: while the idea of attaching it to the side of the litter box may seem tempting, be aware that some cats may not like this “modification” to their familiar box. You don’t want to inadvertently cause a problem.
Our take on the Litter-Lifter and Handy-Holder
Of all the litter scoops I’ve tried, the Litter-Lifter is paws down the best, which is why we awarded it our coveted Seal of Approval. The Handy-Holder is a nice complement to the scoop if you’re trying to be super organized, or if you want to keep the scoop out of reach of other pets or children.

I use the lid lifter but don’t have a handy holder. You don’t mention where the litter box pictured can be purchased. All 3 look like an excellent trio that will work well together.
The litter box is a NVR Miss. We consider it the best litter box on the market: http://nvrmiss.com/
I had totally forgotten the brand of these scoopers. Thank you for showing them again. I need replacements for the ones I have. They really are the most sturdy scoopers I have found. I use the medium sized one.
