When I first saw the title of Lil BUB’s Lil Book: The Most Extraordinary Life of the Most Amazing Cat on the Planet, I balked a little at the subtitle. I don’t begrudge Lil’ BUB, or any of the other internet cat celebrities their fame, but really, don’t we all think that our own cats are the most amazing cats on the planet? I certainly think Allegra and Ruby are!
But then I opened the book. And unlike the hundreds of images I’d seen of Lil Bub on the internet before then, this little book made me realize that she is, indeed, a very special little cat. And like hundreds of thousands of cat lovers before me (Bub currently has more than 300,000 fans on her Facebook page), I fell in love.
Bub was born with several genetic mutations, including a shorter lower jaw and no teeth. She also has dwarfism, which means she will stay kitten-size for her entire life. At two years old, she is fully grown and weighs in at four pounds. She came into Mike Bridavsky’s life when she was eight weeks old. She weighed six ounces at the time, which is tiny even for a kitten that young. His vet warned him that she would need a lifetime of special care, but, writes Mike in the book’s introduction, “after spending ten minutes with her sitting on my chest, purring like a motorboat, I knew I would do anything to help this remarkable critter.”
When online pictures of Bub went viral, she became a feline internet icon.
The book features 100 beautiful full color photos showing Bub traveling through space, exploring planet Earth, flying in hot air balloons, napping, and even skateboarding. And I guarantee you that every single one of them will lift your heart and make you smile.
I don’t know what it is about her, but if she is able to convey this kind of charisma on the printed page, I can’t even imagine what it must be like to meet this amazing little cat in person. Robin Olson at Covered in Cat Hair had a chance to meet her at a book event in New Jersy, and she wrote in her post about the experience “Being in her presence is a gift I will always cherish.”
Even without a personal meeting, this book is a chance to be touched by Lil’ BUB’s magic. I guarantee you that you, too, will fall in love with Lil BUB, and that you will reach for this little book whenever you need a smile.

I just love her. I was lucky enough to get this book. Wonderful review.
It is pretty funny that you and I published our BUB reviews on the same day. MOL. It’s a very fun book and I enjoyed your review. I have to say, I agree about the “Most Amazing” thing. Is she amazing? She sure is. But THE most amazing? Not really…I think she’s one of many amazing cats. But that’s a small quibble … the book and BUB are both adorable.
What a sweety, that face. I love seeing Grumpy Cat(Tard),Pokey,Lil Bub & Colonel Meow along with other internet kitties. I was so glad to read your article on Lil bub. I wondered why her tongue stuck out like that. I figured it was genetic but I hadn’t read her story. She is a lil doll. I also hope that breeders wont try to purposely make a “genetic challenged kitty” to try and get famous or make money off of them. I had also wondered about the welfare of famous kits like Lil bub & Tard. The live appearances they make and the many fans taking pictures with them. What i mean is all those hands all over the kitty & the travel. Is all that safe for them?? I wouldn’t want all those people touching my kits. As long as they are well cared for. I do enjoy seeing them, they always make me smile. I’m happy they are loved by there family 🙂
I wonder about the public appearances of these kitties, too, Angela. From what I’ve heard, Mike Bridavsky is very protective of Lil Bub and limits public appearances. her.
great review Ingrid! I am not sure if I am a fan of her page but will head on over there, might have to check this book out too!
I think you’ll enjoy the book, Caren.
First there was “Grumpy Cat” and now we have “LIL BUB” cat as internet freak sensations. Now only hope that breeders don’t experiment in breeding freak “Dwarf Cats” for the “Pet market” on a mass scale.
It is interesting to me that these two internet celebrity cats are both physically challenged, Rudolph. I’m sure that some of the appeal of these two is the “cute” factor, but it’s also heartwarming to me that they are accepted as “normal” by millions of cat lovers around the world. I think with Grumpy Cat, the meme aspect probably contributed as much to her rise to fame as her appearance, but to me, there is a “magic” about Lil Bub that goes beyond the physical.
