If you’ve read The Conscious Cat for any length of time, you know by now that Ruby loves pretty much any cat bed, but Allegra tends to not be a big fan unless it’s a bed she can stretch out on. Well, it looks like with the Jackson Galaxy Donut Cat Bed, we finally found a bed that they both love – which, of course, means that I’ll probably have to get a second one!
This is the softest cat bed I’ve ever seen, and I see a lot of them. The super soft surface and the overstuffed bolster are made from fluffy, flush cotton that is so soft to the touch, I just wanted to lie down and curl up in it myself. Did I mention this bed is really, really soft? The bed has a non-skid bottom so it won’t slide around on tile or hardwood floors. The entire bed is machine washable.
With a diameter of 18 inches, this is a small bed, but since it’s so incredibly soft, I think it would work for larger cats who like to curl up when they sleep, because it will easily mold to each cat’s shape. For reference for you, Ruby weighs about 7 pounds, and Allegra about 8.
The fabric must have some magical cat attractant in it. Ruby loved the bed right away, but we already know she loves beds, period. The big surprise was that Allegra immediately took to it, too. Which, of course, caused a few problems initially.
My plan had been that with the addition of this bed, the girls could alternate between this bed and the PetFusion Ultimate Lounge Bed (in the background.) But of course, human plans often don’t work out quite the way we think when it comes to cats sharing resources…
For the first two or three days after we got this bed, it was occupied almost 24/7 by either Allegra or Ruby. For a couple of nights, Allegra didn’t even come to bed with me, but slept in the donut bed the entire night (I have to admit that while I’m happy that they love this bed so much, I wasn’t thrilled to not have both of my girls with me at night!). Eventually, they apparently worked out a sharing schedule. I’m not privvy to the specific arrangements, but I now frequently see a version this when I turn around in my office chair:
Some days, Ruby is in the donut, other days, Allegra. I love it when a plan comes together.

I just got this for my cats, along with the comfy dumpling, since I saw this in my local Pet smart and just couldn’t resist. It’s expensive, hence why I’ve been hesitating. Plus, my cats are not known to use cat beds. I’ve purchased several from stores before and they all either got returned or donated. But this bed is the exception. I purchased for my cat that loves to curl up in a donut-shape like Ruby and Allegra, and she LOVES IT! This thing was so well-received I had to run out and buy a second one.
I’m so glad your cat loves the bed, Lana.
I love Allegra’s expression! It’s hilarious 🙂
I have two Siberians and an Oriental mix who would love this, but the cat of the three who’d love it most might not fit! She was the biggest one in her litter, and is about 18 pounds.
You big kitty could probably squish the bed into a shape she likes, but at 18 pounds, it might no longer be a donut. 🙂
This does look like a cozy kitty bed
Looks like a nice bed.
