Review: Lil BUB’s Lil Book: The Extraordinary Life of the Most Amazing Cat on the Planet

Lil_BUB_book

When I first saw the title of Lil BUB’s Lil Book: The Most Extraordinary Life of the Most Amazing Cat on the Planet, I balked a little at the subtitle. I don’t begrudge Lil’ BUB, or any of the other internet cat celebrities their fame, but really, don’t we all think that our own cats are the most amazing cats on the planet? I certainly think Allegra and Ruby are!

But then I opened the book. And unlike the hundreds of images I’d seen of Lil Bub on the internet before then, this little book made me realize that she is, indeed, a very special little cat. And like hundreds of thousands of cat lovers before me (Bub currently has more than 300,000 fans on her Facebook page), I fell in love.Continue Reading

Review: The Cat, the Mill and the Murder by Leann Sweeney

the_cat_the_mill_and_the_murder

Leann Sweeney’s Cats in Trouble series just keeps getting better and better. The series features cat quilter Jillian Hart and her three cats Merlot, Chablis and Chiraz, along with her human friends, who all live in the small town of Mercy, South Carolina.

In The Cat, the Mill and the Murder, the latest installment in the series, Jillian volunteers to help a local animal shelter relocate a colony of feral cats living in an abandoned textile mill. When she visits the mill, she finds a woman who is living there with her “ghost cat” Boots. Jeannie went missing from Mercy, South Carolina, a decade ago, after her daughter’s disappearance. After Jeannie is hurt in an accident and taken to the hospital, a body is found in the mill’s old fireplace. This is only the beginning of a series of long-kept, dark secrets, and Jillian finds herself drawn into yet another investigation.Continue Reading

The_Elegance_of_the_Cat

Stunning. Spectacular. Striking. Those are only a few of the words I’d use to describe The Elegance of the Cat. The photos alone are absolutely incredible, and capture cats in their multi-faceted beauty.

Purrs of Wisdom Reviewed in Best Friends Magazine

Purrs_of_Wisdom_Ingrid_King

It’s always a thrill to see your book reviewed in a national magazine, especially when the review is as wonderful as the one Purrs of Wisdom received from Sally Rosenthal, who reviews books for Best Friends Magazine. Best Friends Magazine is published by Best Friends Animal Society, one of the largest animal sanctuaries in the world. Their Angel Canyon sanctuary in Kanab, Utah, houses more than 1,700 animals at any given time.

The fact that my book’s review was featured on the same page as A Street Cat Named Bob by James Bowen only added to my delight.Continue Reading

Review and Giveaway: Whiskerslist: The Kitty Classifieds by Angie Bailey

Whiskerslist_Angie_Bailey

If you’ve ever wondered what your cats are doing on the computer while you’re not looking, this book will tell you – although after reading it, you may wish you could go back to those innocent days before you knew about Whiskerslist: The Kitty Classifieds.

You may have thought you only had to worry about your cats developing an online shopping habit? Not according to what Angie Bailey uncovered in her investigation of feline internet habits. Oh no. According to Angie, you have a lot more to be concerned about, such as your cats looking for love (or a quick hook up), locating seminars to refine the art of looking away while being photographed, finding support groups for compulsive behavior like cord chewing, and even trying to sell off a slightly-used human.Continue Reading

A Tribute to Homer, The Blind Wonder Cat

Homers_Odyssey

I read Homer’s Odyssey: A Fearless Feline Tale, or How I Learned About Love and Life from a Blind Wonder Cat by Gwen Cooper a few days after it was first released in 2009. The book debuted on  the New York Times Bestseller List at number 14, and has been translated into more than 15 languages since then. This moving, inspirational and often funny story about a blind cat with a huge spirit and an endless capacity for love, joy and a determination to persevere no matter what the obstacles is a wonderful celebration of the bond between a cat and his human and the transformational power of loving an animal.

Review: The World According to Bob by James Bowen

the-world-according-to-bob-the-further-adventures-of-one-man-and-his-street-wise-cat

I fell in love with Bob, the ginger (orange) tom cat and his human, James Bowen, when I read A Street Cat Named Bob last spring. The story of a down on his luck street musician who was busking the streets of London with his cat captured my heart – and the hearts of millions of readers around the world. A Street Cat Named Bob became an international bestseller which has been translated into 25 languages. The book debuted in the US last week, and immediately landed on the New York Times Bestseller List.

I have been following James and Bob on their Facebook page, and I was thrilled to find out that a second book was in the works. I pre-ordered The World According to Bob: The Further Adventures of One Man and His Street-wise Cat as soon as it showed up on Amazon. And like the first book, I couldn’t put this one down.Continue Reading

Exclusive Interview with James Bowen, Author of A Street Cat Named Bob

James-Bowen-Street-Cat-Bob

I have been in love with Bob ever since I read the British edition of A Street Cat Named Bob back in April of last year. The book was released in the US  last week, and is already climbing the bestseller lists. It will debut at #7 on the New York Times Bestseller List next week. I’ve been following James and Bob on their Facebook page for the past year, and I am thrilled for the incredible success they’ve been experiencing. As far as life changing cats go, Bob is in a category of his own.

I was delighted when the US publisher offered me the opportunity to send a few questions across the Atlantic to James Bowen.

James, when we last “spoke” via email in May of last year, I asked you how your life had changed since the book came out in the UK. Continue Reading
