Cats often get a bad reputation with regards to birds. A few years ago, I wrote Faulty Science Spread Lies About Cats and Their Impact on Wildlife, and even though the post is old, the information is still relevant. But there is a way for birds to not only coexist peacefully with cats, they can also provide stimulating entertainment for indoor cats, and the best part: nobody gets hurt.

Bird feeders for indoor cats

The topic of indoor vs. outdoor cats can be controversial for many, but for me, it’s pretty black and white. All of my cats have always been, and will always be, indoor cats. Indoor cats live longer and safer lives, and as long as you provide plenty of environmental enrichment, frequent playtime, and lots of love and attention, cats will never miss the great outdoors.

A strategically placed bird feeder could turn out to be one of the most popular choices of entertainment for your indoor cats. I happen to love birds, and love watching the activity at our feeder almost as much as Allegra does (although I won’t chatter my teeth when I get excited…)

I keep several bird feeders on my deck and in my backyard year-round.

Over the summer, I had a hummingbird window feeder attached to the sliding glass door. The hummingbirds left our area in early October, and I really wanted another window feeder so Allegra could watch birds up close. Recently, PetFusion sent us their Tranquility Window Feeder to review.

Putting the Tranquility Window Feeder to the test

As is the case with all of PetFusion’s products, this feeder is exceptionally well designed. It adheres well (even with the weight of a squirrel in it!) When I first put it out, I used a no-waste blend, but unfortunately, the squirrels got to it before the birds even had a chance. After that, I used Nyjer seed, which the squirrels don’t like, and we get quite a variety of birds at the feeder.

Allegra loves to sit on her Scratching Flip Pad, also from PetFusion, and watch the action.

2 Comments on PetFusion Tranquility Window Bird Feeder: Environmental Enrichment for Indoor Cats

  1. Mine don’t pay any attention.
I have a hummingbird feeder on my kitchen window by the sink, and to really enjoy them, I get the one that has perches….sometimes one will sit there for the longest time.

  2. I don’t think a bird feeder would work here. My girls go crazy when they see birds or squirrels in the yard and try to go through the glass to get them. Maybe when they are older, and more calm, they might enjoy watching them.
