You’ve come to know Sarah Chauncey through her compassionate writing about loss and grief here on The Conscious Cat over the past few years. After her heart-cat Hedda died in 2016, she wrote P.S. I Love You More Than Tuna, a beautifully illustrated and healing gift book which is available for pre-order now.
And now you can get to know Sarah even better! On Saturday, July 11, she will be giving a talk on “How to Deepen Your Bond with Your Cat.” What makes this talk different from others about similar topics is that while Sarah will address some of the conventional wisdom for bonding with a cat, she will also explore how to strengthen the soul connection we have with our cats.
The fact that our feline companions have a relatively short lifespan is one of the most challenging aspects of being a cat parent, and Sarah’s writing has helped people heal after loss. Her post on what to expect when you’re grieving the loss of a cat has more than 150 comments and has become a virtual support group for those grieving.
Sarah says there’s a silver lining to that difficult cloud: “What we lack in length of time together with our cats, we can make up for in the depth of our bond. One of my hopes with the Tuna book is that it will help people mindfully appreciate the time we do have with our cats. Now that most people are spending more time at home, it’s a real opportunity to deepen our bond with our cats.”
The talk will be held as part of Meowfest Virtual via Zoom on Saturday, July 11 at 11:00am Pacific time. The talk is free to all Meowfest attendees. Tickets to Meowfest are first come, first serve, and they cost $25 CAD (about $16 USD). Attendees of Sarah’s talk will also receive a downloadable Zoom virtual background drawn by Francis Tremblay, who drew the illustrations for Sarah’s book, and a chance to win an illustration of your cat, past or present, in the style of P.S. I Love You More Than Tuna.
Sarah Chauncey is the author of P.S. I Love You More Than Tuna, an upcoming gift book for adults grieving their cat. She runs @morethantuna on Instagram and Facebook, and she started #tunatributes, a support community for people grieving their cat. She lives on Vancouver Island.
