I love the creativity that goes into handmade cat toys, and I’m always amazed at what wonderful creations people come up with, but rarely have I seen a collection of toys as varied and creative as the ones shown in Knits for Kitties: 25 Knit Patterns for Making Cat Toys. Sara Elizabeth Kellner is a knitting designer who combines her love of animals and art to create whimsical toy patterns.

From grasshoppers to kitten mittens to birthday cakes, there’s a toy for every kitty in this book. The toys have adorable names like Mouse in the House, Jingle-bell Ball, Baby Bumblebee, Fish Out of Water, Snake in the Grass, Butterfly Kisses, Leaping Lizard. Each toy comes with a step-by-step guide to the stitches and techniques used to create the toy, and also features suggestions for extra embellishments like catnip, bells, and feathers.

I haven’t knitted in a long time, but this book makes me want to get out the knitting needles again. But even if you’re not a knitter, looking through this book is a treat. The gorgeous four-color photos are stunning, and the toys (and watching the cats in the photos play with them) are guaranteed to make you smile.

  1. These are cute. I wish I were creative enough to make them. The one person I know who does crochet and knit still hasn’t produced the kitty butt coasters that I bought a bunch of yarn and sent to her to make.

  2. I love this but can someone do this for crochet? I don’t know how to knit! Check me out on Ravelry under Pandastamper
