Mews and Nips: New York Artists Compete in Cat Painting Takedown

A competition at Brooklyn’s Active Space Gallery is challenging artists to create the purr-fect work of art. Artists will have two hours to complete their cat themed paintings. Contestants are already planning their contributions for the November 24 contest. “I definitely want to defend my title,” Susanne Lamb, 25, told the Daily News. Lamb took first place in a related Black Velvet Painting Takedown in August. She’s using her tortoiseshell cat, Olive, shown in the sketch above, as her mewse. “I am sketching Olive a lot,” admits Lamb. “The level of obsession with her is rising. It’s really hard to limit yourself when your cat is so cute.” Read the full story about the competition in the Daily News.

If you missed any of the stories featured on The Conscious Cat this week, here’s a recap: on  Monday, we explained why bad breath in cats can be the indicator of a serious health problem, on Tuesday, we published our 2013 Holiday Gift Guide, on Wednesday, we introduced you to Pablo, one of the cats who will benefit from Fancy Cats Rescue Team being Jackson Galaxy’s Shelter of the Month, on Thursday, we shared some fascinating facts about polydactyl cats, and on Friday, we reviewed the newest Simon’s Cat book.

Today’s video is guaranteed to bring a smile. That is one very patient dog!

Have a great weekend!
