Review: Pet Fusion 3 Sided Vertical Scratcher

Petfusion-scratcher

Of all the product reviews Allegra and Ruby get to participate in, scratchers are probably their most favorite. They both tend to like a variety of scratchers and scratching surfaces, so we have a lot of different ones throughout our house. They couldn’t wait to get to work to test Pet Fusion’s 3 Sided Vertical Scratcher.

This eco-friendly scratcher is made from recycled corrugated cardboard. The unique sloped design is perfect for cats who like vertical scratchers – it adds a little extra interest to the traditional “straight up” vertical models.Continue Reading

Review: Double Sided Scratcher from The Meow Mommy

cat_scratcher

When it comes to scratchers, more is better. And while most cats will develop a preference for a certain type of scratcher, you never really know whether your cats will like a particular scratcher until you let them give it a try.

I had a feeling Allegra and Ruby were going to love The Double Sided Scratcher from The Meow Mommy, and I wasn’t wrong. I could barely get it out of its plastic shrink wrap before Allegra gave it a go, as you can see in the video below.Continue Reading

Review: Googie Cat Bed from Davies Decor

Googie_cat_bed

Sometimes, a cat bed is more than just a cat bed, and this is absolutely the case for the Googie Bed. While this beautifully handcrafted piece of cat furniture most definitely makes an excellent bed and scratcher, as Allegra and Ruby will show you below, it’s also a piece of art.

I don’t know about you, but my house is pretty much Allegra and Ruby’s house – I’m lucky I get to live here. We’re getting close to the point where cat furniture outnumbers my furniture,Continue Reading

Review: Katris Cat Furniture

Katris-11

Modular cat furniture was a big trend at Global Pet Expo, and it’s a trend I really like. It allows you to configure cat trees and other cat furniture to suit your living space and your cats’ preferences. Katris applied this concept to corrugated cardboard furniture, and they’ve done it really well.

Katris is a system of cardboard shapes that you can arrange in endless configurations. Remember the computer game Tetris? You get the idea. I was thrilled when the folks at Papercut Lab offered to send Katris to us for review. I was really curious to find out how sturdy this product would be.Continue Reading

Scratch Lounge Review: A Unique Cardboard Scratcher

Scratch_Lounge

One of my favorite products at Global Pet Expo was the Scratch Lounge. I was delighted when the company sent us one to review – and so were Allegra and Ruby!

The Scratch Lounge is a good size, sturdy cardboard scratcher. The unique, patented three-sided design lets cats scratch to their hearts’ content, but it also gives them an alternative place to nap.

It didn’t take my two little product testers long to decide that the Scratch Lounge was a welcome new addition to our home. Continue Reading

Allegra and Ruby Review the New Sleeky Lounge from Brawny Cat

cat_scratch_lounge

As far as product reviews go, this one had to be one of the girls’ favorite ones. I’ve long been an admirer of Brawny Cat’s absolutely amazing Big Baby Comfort Lounge and Big Sleeky Comfort Lounge. These loungers are works of art, made from beautiful natural cedar wood and heavy duty corrugated cardboard scratchers, but at price points ranging from $179 to $229, they were a little outside of my price range.

I was excited when Andrew, the human behind these exceptionally beautiful loungers, contacted me and asked whether we would like to review his newest lounger, the Sleeky Lounge XL. These loungers are made with a sturdy, hand burnished cardboard scratching surface, and a big, comfortable back rest and side bolsters. They look and feel like they’re made out of wood, and yet, they are priced at only  $47.95! Andrew generously sent two of these Sleeky Loungs for Allegra and Ruby to test. I guess he figured that they would love them so much that it might cause problems if he only sent one!Continue Reading

Giveaway: Turbo Scratcher with Turbo Teaser Toy

Turbo Scratcher Bergan Pet Products

Our first giveaway of the new year is one your kitties are going to go wild for: a Turbo Scratcher® with Turbo Teaser™ toy from Bergan!

My cats have had Turbo Scratchers for as long as I can remember. I still have the original Bergan Turbo Scratcher Toy I bought for Feebee in the 1980′s! I just replace the center cardboard scratcher part periodically – and one of the things I love about this product is that even after all these years, they still make replacement scratchers and they still fit. All of my cats have loved and played with this scratcher. It’s one of Ruby’s favorites. If this isn’t a testament to the durability of this product, I don’t know what is!

The Turbo Teaser Toy™ is a fun addition to the Turbo Scratcher®. With just a few easy snaps the teaser can be added to the Turbo Scratcher® for a brand new toy. “Fox tail” and feather toys include bells and are interchangeable.Continue Reading

Giveaway: Infinity Cat Scratcher Lounge

Infinity Cat Scratch Lounge

I love seeing so many creative cat scratchers on the market now. Gone are the days when the only option was a piece of cardboard in a box, or a carpeted pole. With all these different options, there is truly a scratcher for every cat.

Today, you’ll have an opportunity to win this fabulous scratch lounge for your kitties! The Infinity Cat Scratcher Lounge gives your feline charges an all-in-one opportunity to scratch, nap, and play. I like the multiple scratching surfaces at different angles, and of course, the curves provide a perfect spot for a nap, or to watch what’s going on in the house. And even better, the  Infinity Cat Scratcher Lounge comes ready to use right out of the box, no assembly required (words that make my mechanically challenged self happy).

Review and giveaway: Imperial Cat Scratch ‘n Shapes Sofa Scratcher Chaise

Imperial_Cat_Scratcher

My two little product testers have been super busy lately! Our newest product is the Imperial Cat Scratch ‘n Shapes Sofa Scratcher Chaise. The scratcher comes complete with some heavy duty organic catnip, but we didn’t even need to sprinkle that on. As soon as I put it on the floor, they both checked it out.

The cardboard portion of the scratcher is nice and strong, featuring a honeycomb texture that allows cats to really get their claws into it. The bottom is covered with a sturdy piece of paper to prevent catnip and loose cardborad pieces from falling through to the floor.

Allegra loves scratching posts of all types, and immediately went to town on this one. The video I shot of her using it may be turning her into a TV star: a British production company making a special for National Geographic, provisionally called “The Wild Side of Cats,” which looks at the behavior of domestic cats and examines how that compares to big cat behaviour in the wild, may be using this clip in the program!Continue Reading
