Basket Cat Perch

Last week, we featured two adorable basket cat beds. Ever since then, Allegra and Ruby have been working on a wish list, and they’ve included this double basket cat perch. Allegra thinks it would be perfect because they could share it. Ruby is not so sure about the sharing part, but she said as long as she can call the shots on who gets which basket, she’ll consider it.Continue Reading

Review: Galaxy Spiral

The concept of the Galaxy Spiral is nothing new: a ball inside a round track, a scratching pad in the center. However, since it’s designed by the Cat Daddy Jackson Galaxy himself, it’s pretty much guaranteed to have some special touches that the other versions don’t have.Continue Reading

Kool Kitty Hotel: Packaging that Doubles as a Toy

This post is sponsored by Kool Kitty Toys

Scratching is a natural behavior for cats. Cats scratch to groom their claws; the scratching motion helps remove dead sheaths from their front claws (they usually chew them off their back claws). They scratch to mark their territory. They scratch for exercise; scratching stretches the muscles in the front legs and all along the back. And they scratch simply because it feels good. The problem comes in when this natural behavior collides with our living space. While some cat guardians have resigned themselves to living with scratched furniture, sometimes “sacrficing” one piece to the cats, there are other ways to protect your furniture, and still let your cat be a cat.Continue Reading

The SmartCat Ultimate Scratch ‘n Play

This post contains Amazon Associate links*

The SmartCat Ultimate Scratching Post has been a favorite at our house for many years. It’s one of the tallest, sturdiest scratchers we’ve come across. We have this post in my office, and the girls use it every single day.

And now this classic got even better: with the SmartCat Ultimate Scratch ‘N Play, it combines the functionality and beautiful design of this scratcher with the addition of a puzzle toy at the bottom of the post. Puzzle toys are a great way to keep your cats entertained and mentally stimulated when you can’t play with them.Continue Reading

Review: Katris Lynks

I’ve long been a fan of Katris modular cat furniture. Katris is a system of cardboard shapes that you can arrange in endless configurations. Remember the computer game Tetris? You get the idea. Katris uses super dense paper for the construction of these sturdy pieces, and they also offer covers in multiple colors so you can make Katris part of your home decor.

We reviewed the original Katris system two years ago. Today, we’re taking a look at Katris’ newest offering, Katris Lynks.Continue Reading

Allegra and Ruby’s 5 Current Favorite Cat Toys

5 favorites cover

This post contains Amazon Associate links*

If there was a Guinness World Record for “Most Spoiled Cat,” I’m sure Allegra and Ruby would be in the running to win that title. Between the toys we get for product reviews and the toys that I buy them (yes, I still buy them toys – did I mention that they’re spoiled?), there’s never a shortage of toys here. But as we all know, cats get easily bored with toys, so I tend to rotate toys in and out quite a bit. It always amazes me how a previously ignored toy  becomes a new favorite after it’s been hidden for a couple of weeks.

But among all of their toys, there are five that have been consistent favorites, even though they are never put away. I thought I’d let Allegra and Ruby introduce them to you.Continue Reading

Global Pet Expo 2016: Highlights from the World’s Biggest Pet Product Show

Last week I made my annual trip to Global Pet Expo in Orlando. This trade show is the largest pet product trade show in the US, with 6.3 miles of display space featuring 1,300 vendors from nearly 40 countries. I tried to see as much as I could in three days, and I know I walked a lot more than 6 miles each day! In the coming weeks and months, I’ll be bringing you a lot more information about some of the fantastic new products I saw there. Today, I’d like to share just a few personal highlights with you.

I was most excited about getting my first look at the new furniture line by Hauspanther’s Kate Benjamin. Kate is launching this new line in conjunction with Primetime Petz later this year. Needless to say, with Kate behind the design, the pieces in the collection are not only well-designed from a cat’s perspective, they’re also beautiful! I’ll show you the line in more detail later this week.

Pioneer Pet Products introduced two new products I liked a lot: a variation of one of our all time favorite scratching posts, the Ultimate Scratch ‘n Play, and Bootsies Corner Scratcher.

Our friends at Podtrackers had a super cool booth display featuring creator Sebastian Langton’s gorgeous cat Smokey. Pod is still the smallest of the GPS trackers on the market, and as such, the one best suited to cats. Pod is one of the seven prizes you can win in our anniversary giveaway!

I was delighted to see new products in the Vesper line of cat furniture by Hagen. Even after everything I saw at Global this year, I still consider this line one of the most beautiful lines of cat furniture. The line will also be available in a new pretty red color, in addition to the walnut and white finishes.

Bavarian Cat Toys had a super fun holiday display that made me remember my childhood Christmases in Germany. The display showed off some of their new holiday themed toys.

Kate Benjamin with Mimi

The folks at Dr. Catsby’s booth had one of the most creative displays, and even better, they had a kitty at their booth! The lovely Mimi was one of the most mellow and relaxed cats I’ve ever seen and made a purrfect ambassador for this innovative bowl designed to prevent whisker stress.

with Nikki Moustaki, her dog Jasmine, and Kate Benjamin

And of course, no trade show would be complete without a little personal fun. On St. Patrick’s Day, a group of us went out to celebrate. And yes, I know it looks like Jasmine had a few too many cocktails, but I assure you that the only thing she had to drink was water!
