Modular cat furniture was a big trend at Global Pet Expo, and it’s a trend I really like. It allows you to configure cat trees and other cat furniture to suit your living space and your cats’ preferences. Katris applied this concept to corrugated cardboard furniture, and they’ve done it really well.

Katris is a system of cardboard shapes that you can arrange in endless configurations. Remember the computer game Tetris? You get the idea. I was thrilled when the folks at Papercut Lab offered to send Katris to us for review. I was really curious to find out how sturdy this product would be.

The system arrived in three giant boxes – Allegra and Ruby were thrilled even before they saw the contents. As you can see in the photo above, Allegra supervised unpacking and assembly. Assembly is super easy: you arrange the pieces the way you want, connect them with the plastic clips, and you’re done!

The pieces are hand assembled from 100% recyclable cardboard, using 90% post consumer recycled content. They use only non-toxic starch-based adhesives and no inks or dyes. Each piece is nice and sturdy, and as long as you start out with a solid base, you can build it pretty high.

The configuration you see in the pictures above was a little wobbly, but Ruby ran up and down at full speed, and it didn’t tilt.

I love all the different possibilities these pieces give you. You can create a cat superhighway by placing it next to another cat tree, the way I did in our kitty play room. Ruby likes having it by a window so she can use it as a birdwatching post. And the best part: it doubles as a scratching post.

Four paws and two thumbs up for this innovative new product!

Katris is coming to Amazon soon, so put it on your Amazon wishlist! For more information about Katris, and to see different configurations, please visit the Papercut Lab website.
