Paw Prints at Owl Cottage brings the reader back to the beautiful setting of a remote country cottage in Northumberland in England, home to the author, his wife, and their cats. This sequel to Paw Prints in the Moonlight is a heartwarming story about the power of cats, and the way they change lives.
From the publisher:
When Denis and his wife Catherine return to Owl Cottage, their former home, only to find it in a dilapidated state, they decide to restore this charming house. But the memory of Denis’s beloved cat, Toby Jug, still lingers on. On impulse he buys a Maine Coon Kitten, Pablo, who proves to be such a wonderful companion that he decides to buy three more and names them Carlos, Luis, and Max. Set against the wilds of the Northumbrian coast, Denis tenderly and humorously charts the ups and downs of life with his mischievous cats in this warm and touching tale.
Reminiscent of the James Herriott books, this book captures a simpler life than that most of us live, and therein lies part of its charm. The narrative is nature writing at its best: descriptive, evocative, and almost lyrical at times. O’Connor’s deep love for his cats comes through in every passage. There’s something almost magical about this book.
You may want to have tissues handy as you read this book. I found a few passages somewhat disturbing, but mostly, I found myself smiling and nodding in recognition as the author describes day-to-day life with his cats.
While I didn’t love this book quite as much as the first book, which stayed with me long after I finished it, I still thoroughly enjoyed this charming sequel.

Would enjoy a book about cats, thank you for the chance to win! 🙂
What a lot of lovely feedback on this – one of the best books ever written about cats. In the UK the series is “Paw Tracks” rather than “Prints” but of course – the same difference. I have read this book and the previous one, beautifully written; only a true cat lover could write as Mr O’Connor does about his life with cats, what characters they are. Harrowing in parts, tremendously sad in others – but well worth a read. Whoever won this book is going to have a welcome addition to their library.
Looking at the cover I think it a pity (just a slight niggle, not very important, the content is the most important after all) the cats portrayed are obviously NOT Maine Coon – but… as I say, minor point and most certainly wouldn’t detract from the story inside.
I am an avid reader, and a lover of cats. My boy Smokey is my best friend. I’ve enjoyed all cat-related literature that I’ve tried so far, and would love to add this to my collection! From your review, it looks like one that I would really like! 🙂 Thanks for the giveaway!

I am an avid reader and this sounds like a fun read. I live in the woods with five cats. It would be intersting to read another’s experience in a rural setting.

When I’m having a down day, there is nothing like coming home to my cat and snuggling down with her and a good book. Makes the cares of the day go away.
