I’m pretty sure that most of you have either read the James Herriot books, or watched the old British TV show – and if you haven’t, you owe it to yourself to catch up. St. Martin’s just released a beautiful new gift edition of James Herriot’s cat stories.
Those of you familiar with the books will enjoy revisiting Buster, the kitten who arrived on Christmas; Alfred, the cat at the sweet shop; little Emily, who lived with the gentleman tramp; and Olly and Ginny, the kittens who charmed readers when they first appeared at the Herriots’ house in the worldwide bestseller Every Living Thing.
Herriot’s stories are set in the 1930, 40’s and 50’s, and are loosely based on his real life as a veterinarian (Herriot’s real name was James Alfred Wight.) His blend of humor and compassion offers a timeless magic that will delight cat lovers for generations to come.
I don’t often re-read books, but James Herriot’s books are among the treasured few that I will read over and over again. This beautifully illustrated new edition will have a permanent place in my cat book library.
I received a copy of this book from the publisher. Receiving the complimentary copy did not influence my review.
