When we help animals, we also help ourselves. Most of us, at one time or another, have experienced the healing power of cats. They comfort us when we’re sad, make us smile even on our most stressful days, and offer unconditional love. The family of a courageous, free-spirited girl named Kylie experienced this healing power firsthand when a tortoiseshell rescue kitten named Liza came into their lives during Kylie’s final days.
“I’ve heard people describe animals like angels. I never really understood what that meant until Liza met Kylie,” said Robin Myers, Kylie’s mom. In her final days, Kylie was comforted by Liza. Kylie’s compassionate last requests were that her father help find a cure for childhood cancer and that her mother care for her kitten. In the same way she bonded with Kylie when she most needed her, Liza now intuitively comforts her bereaved family.
Mutual Rescue, an organization dedicated to celebrating the bond between people and their pets through sharing stories in film and print, produced this beautiful film.

What a beautiful little torti — my own torti girl is purring in my lap as I write, and she saved me, too, after my loss of a tiny kitten girl to FIP very unexpectedly — and what beautiful little girl. Nothing happens by accident. Long, happy, healthy, LOVED life to you, sweet Liza! <3
I’m sorry about your kitten, but so glad your tortie girl helped you heal after losing her.
What a beautiful and sad film. I have always believed cats are angels sent to help us in times of sorrow and trouble. Liza came into Kylie’s life at just the right time. Now that she offers purrs of comfort to the bereaved family is testimony to her continuing role as comforter and counselor.
This was so, so beautiful…and so, so sad…and inspiring…and touching…and so much more than words can describe. Thank you for sharing the story of Kylie and Liza – clearly a special cat through whom Kylie lives on…
What a beautiful family, a beautiful child, and a very, very special tortie-without-an-attitude.
That is the saddest, most beautiful story I’ve read in a long time. Cats comfort the sick and dying but how can we repay it?
What a great story.
I’m so glad they found each other. I can’t imagine what this family is going through. It’s heartbreaking.
I adored this sweet, sad and uplifting story when I saw it earlier this week.
