When our friend Melissa, the founder and publisher of Mochas, Mysteries and Meows, lost her precious tortie Truffles suddenly and traumatically last month, our hearts were heavy. Losing a cat is always devastating, but when it happens unexpectedly, and to a young cat (Truffles was only two), it’s almost unbearable. There was no doubt in my mind that Melissa would open her heart to another cat when she was ready, and I was delighted when she announced the adoption of Miss Mudpie earlier this week. Please join me in congratulating Melissa on her new family member – and isn’t Miss Mudpie a great name for a tortie? Check out Melissa’s blog for more photos of little Miss Mudpie.

If you missed any of the stories featured on The Conscious Cat last week, here’s a recap: On Sunday, we offered suggestions on how to stop complaining about your life, on Monday, we answered the question of how much you should feed your cat, on Tuesday, we announced that we are partnering with Spirit Essences for the second year in a row to be the Rescue Cat Sponsor at the National Capital Cat Show next month, on Wednesday, we explored whether tortoiseshell cats are more talkative than other cats, and on Friday, we reviewed Leann Sweeney’s latest installment in her Cats in Trouble series, The Cat, the Sneak and the Secret. And don’t forget to enter our giveaway for a SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder!

Today’s video made me think of the old saying that cats are smarter than dogs because you can’t get eight cats to pull a sled through the snow, but Rosie the kitten seems to have a blast walking with her Husky friends. I guess she’s an official member of the pack now – could pulling a sled be next? Enjoy!

Have a great weekend!

  1. What a cute name & glad the lovely newcomer tortie has a happy home now. So very sorry about the lost dear one.

Our part tortie is very quiet (shocking in a part Siamese isn’t it) but definitely full of tortitude.

  2. We were just ecstatic to learn about the arrival of Miss Mudpie!
Wishing them many years of happiness together!

  3. We too were just heartbroken for Melissa… but now are thrilled for her and sweet Miss Mudpie. We have a feeling they are already loving each other to pieces.
