Scratching is a natural behavior for cats. Cats scratch to groom their claws, the scratching motion helps remove dead sheaths from their front claws (they usually chew them off their back claws). They scratch to mark their territory. Their front paws contain scent glands, and scratching leaves behind their unique signature on the object being scratched. They scratch for exercise; scratching stretches the muscles in the front legs and all along the back. And they scratch simply because it feels good.

The problem comes in when this natural behavior collides with our living space. While some cat guardians have resigned themselves to living with scratched furniture, sometimes “sacrificing” one piece to the cats, there are simple and safe ways to protect your furniture, and still let your cat be a cat.

Never punish your cat for scratching where you think she shouldn’t – punishment simply leads to increased anxiety and more unwanted behavior.

Sticky Paws products offer tried and trusted solutions for many scratching problems. Today’s giveaway features a trio of these handy products: a package of Sticky Paws XL sheets, a roll of Sticky Paws tape, and one pack of Sticky Paws furniture strips.

  1. We have a cat that insists on clawing on fabric and leather despite our best efforts to re-direct her attentions. This product sounds promising!

  2. My neighbor uses this and raves about it! My cat tends to scratch on one chair, so this would be perfect!

  3. It sounds like a great project! My older cat loves to knead my carpet, even though she has her own mat. This would probably be the solution!

  4. Dear god, I NEED this; my 2 cats have destroyed my boxspring on my bed by clawing the foot of my bed. To the point where I’m going to buy a new one. Before I do, I need to find a place that sells this!

  5. Love your blog and all the info, stories, help you provide. I have three kits now and just can’t imagine a life without. Also your giveaway ends on my birthday so I hope I am lucky.

  6. I cant get my cat to stop scratching my couch and im getting a new one this weekend so im at my wits end for a solution

  7. I would love these for my boys. One has been scratching the wood footboard at the bottom of my bed, and it looks SO bad now! And my other one has taken to scratching the end of my couch. These would be a godsend!

  8. I have 2 cats who insist on scratching the top of my bed. They are ruining my mattress! I’ve tried sprays, that they totally ignore.

  9. Love the flat scratcher. Have older cat and raising up on hind legs can be painful for him. The new boy loves things high in the air. So he enjoys climbing the cat tree and using the poles between levels as scratching posts.

  10. I’m basically resigned to the problems of sharing my house with my sweet fur baby, but I have a new carpet I would like to last for awhile.

  11. My cats have totally scratched up one couch; now they have moved to the second. I’d like to protect the second one before it ends up a raggedy mess!

  12. My cat George Paul Jingles loved “flexing” on my bean bag chair, lol. Must have been the skooshiness!

  13. I hope to win the Sticky Paws trio because my two cats and I are moving to Vancouver WA to assist my 87 years young mother. They will be in new territory, and while their post and Trader Joe’s cardboard scratchers will be front and center, I’d like to protect Mom’s furniture if they are a bit anxious in their new home.

  14. These would be a great idea because I have one longterm foster cat who refuses to use any scratching posts or systems – only my door jambs; then the other cats follow suit — gggrrrrr
