Dealing with a cat who won’t use the litter box is one of the most frustrating issues cat guardians may be faced with. It’s also one of the most common reasons why cats are returned to shelters. The reasons why cats eliminate outside the litter box vary, and include litter box aversion, urine marking, hormonal problems, and medical issues.

I’m delighted to be the featured guest on a teleseminar hosted by Holli Shan, a certified animal massage therapist and animal communicator and owner of Compassionate Animal Communication.

The teleseminar will be in a question and answer format, and we’ll try and answer as many questions as we can.

3 Comments on FREE Teleseminar: Why Won’t My Cat Use the Litter Box?

  1. I had a problem with one of my cats not using the box. I would always find a pile of poop next to the box. One day I watched from the corner while she went and found the box just wasn’t big enough for her to get into the spot she wanted to use. i found replaced the boxes in the house with bigger ones and no more problems. My motehr had the same problem and it turned out she was putting the cat box on top of a box so her dogs couldn’t get to it and her cat had to climb up to use it. An old overweight cat is not going to go the extra steps to use the bathroom. Once she set it on the floor, the problem was resolved. Also her cat was declawed (she came into the rescue I was volunteering at this way) and the litter she was using hurt her paws.

  2. My 16 year old tabby gets into the litter box, she digs and digs and digs some more until there is a big hole. She then puts her front paws neatly into the hole that she has just dug (truly) and then hangs her bottom over the edge of litter tray to do her dirties. I don’t know who is madder her (for her strange behaviour) or me for putting up with it for 16 whole years – they do say love is blind and think in this case it really is!
