There are a lot of great cat care books on the market. Some of my favorites approach cat care from a holistic standpoint. Classics like Elizabeth Hodgkins, DVM’s Your Cat: Simple New Secrets to a Longer, Stronger Life, The Complete Guide to Holistic Cat Care by Celeste Yarnall and Jean Hofve, DVM, and Anitra Frazier’s The Natural Cat: The Comprehensive Guide to Optimum Care are my “go to” books when people ask me for recommendations. But even though these books define for me what a good cat care book should look like, I’m always interested in looking at new additions to this genre, because I believe that cat guardians can never have too much information,  provided it comes from a reputable source.

Arden Moore is one of those reputable sources. Arden is a radio show host, author, professional speaker, editor, media consultant and pet first-aid instructor. Her mission: bringing out the best in pets and their people. In Fit Cat: Tips and Tricks to Give Your Pet a Longer, Healthier and Happier Life, Arden provides a wealth of information on all things cat, ranging from first aid to grooming and training to behavior.

Fit Cat also covers some topics that are not usually part of these types of guides. The section on budgeting provides tips on how you can save money on cat care without compromising your cat’s health, suggestions for homemade cat toys, and tips on how to purchase pet insurance. My favorite section of the book is titled “Pet-Proof Your Home, a Second Time.” Arden provides tips on how to adapt your home to meet the special needs of senior cats.

Illustrated with beautiful, four color photographs, this comprehensive guide offers both common sense and unusual tips on how to keep your feline family members happy and healthy.  The book features a foreword by the late Lorie Huston, DVM, whose name, unfortunately, is misspelled on the cover.
