Review and giveaway: Enter to win a KatKabin cat house

Allegra on ScratchKabin

Whenever a box arrives addressed to Allegra and Ruby King, my two product testers know that it’s time for them to get to work! They’re always very helpful with opening the boxes, and they can’t wait to see what fun new product they get to check out.

Their eyes got bigger as it became obvious that something really big was going to come out of this particular box. Once I got the KatKabin® it out of the box, it didn’t take Allegra long to claim it as hers, as you can see in the photo above.

KatKabins® are unique and innovative cat houses. The outdoor version stands above the ground and provides a warm, cosy outdoor shelter for napping, stretching and relaxing in all weather conditions. It comes with a removable KatFlap and a washable KatKushion.Continue Reading

Review and giveaway: Moderncat Stacks toys

Moderncat_Stacks_wool_toy

Allegra and Ruby got to be two of the first kitties to review the lastest creation from Miss Moderncat, Kate Benjamin: Stacks are colorful felt toys with unevenly stacked pieces, which give the toys great bounceability!

While the girls just love playing with their Stacks toy, I love that they’re made from 100% Merino wool, using leftover pieces from Moderncat’s popular Atomic Flyers. Nothing goes to waste at Moderncat Studio. The toys are sturdy and soft. We’ve only had ours for a few days, but it’s been kicked and chewed quite a bit, and I don’t even see any marks on it.

Review and giveaway: Catpods cat furniture for the eco-friendly feline

Allegra_catpod_cat_furniture

When the big box addressed to “Allegra and Ruby King” arrived last week, the girls were very excited. The box had paw prints and cats on it! They couldn’t wait for me to open it. When I took the Catpods Original Catpod™ out of the box, they immediately went to investigate.

What is a Catpod? It’s a scratcher, playhouse, catbed, and big cat toy, all in one. Even though at first glance, the cat pod looks like your average cardboard scratcher, it is most definitely not average. Continue Reading

Cat Window Perches

This post contains Amazon Associate links.*

Every time I post a photo of Allegra or Ruby on one of their window perches, I get several questions about where I got them, and the question always makes me smile.

The reason for the smile? The perches are ancient, and whenever I answer it, it makes me remember all the cats that have enjoyed them before Allegra and Ruby. I bought two of the perches for Feebee in the late 1980’s.  One is in my bedroom, one in my office. They require no tools for mounting, they attach to the window sill with a velcro strip. My window sills are very narrow, about two inches wide, and it’s enough to hold the perches securely. Amber was the heaviest of my cats, and even at 13 pounds, the perches held up to daily use.

Allegra and Ruby love their perches, as have all the cats that came before them. From napping to sunbathing to front and back yard watching, I don’t think there’s been a single day when one or both perches have been in use for part of the day.

Unfortunately, the perch we have, which used to be sold by Petco, is no longer available.

Here is a similar one available from Amazon:

Wouldn’t your kitty love a window perch like Allegra’s and Ruby’s – well, almost like Allegra’s and Ruby’s?

New from The Conscious Cat: greeting cards

cat greeting cards

I love looking at cat greeting cards, both online and in stores. And the more I look at cards, the more I find that there just aren’t a whole lot of tortoiseshell cat greeting cards out there, so I decided to create some! Allegra and Ruby, not being the shy sort, love the idea of being on cards sent to brighten someone’s day. And who doesn’t love getting a “real” card in this age of electronic greetings?

The cards are available in three different designs, the inside of each card is blank. You can get the design above featuring both of the girls, or you can get Allegra or Ruby by themselves.

Our new favorite: Da Bird Interactive Cat Toy

Da Bird interactive cat toy recommended by Jackson Galaxy

If you’ve been watching My Cat From Hell, you’ve probably noticed that there hasn’t been a single episode when the Da Bird toy hasn’t come out of Jackson’s guitar case. And I’m embarassed to admit that until recently, Allegra and Ruby did not have a Da Bird of their own. Since they’ve registered complaints about this oversight on my part after every single episode for the past six weeks, I finally caved and got them their own Da Bird.

It was a huge hit, especially with Allegra. As I’ve mentioned before, Allegra’s play style is very strategic and deliberate. Unlike Ruby, who will pounce on and chase after anything that moves, Allegra watches and waits. She also often takes a step back to Ruby’s more exuberant play. When I spoke with Jackson Galaxy about this, he explained that this is a personality thing: some cats are natural hunters while others are quite happy to sit back and let another cat do the hunting.Continue Reading

Giveaway: Win a Big Baby’s Comfy Lounge or Big Baby’s Comfy Loft from BrawnyCat

***This giveaway is closed***

You may have seen the BrawnyCat Lounge on My Cat From Hell a couple of weeks ago. You may have seen it featured on Moderncat. And if you  haven’t already bought one, it’s probably on your wish list for your cats. What cat wouldn’t love one of these fabulous scratch lounges?

The original BrawnyCat Ultimate Cat Scratcher/Lounger was designed by Andrew Lesko for his 25-pound cat when he found that “she loved to lounge on her cardboard cat scratcher. It was just her natural spot to hang out on. Her own scent, left by her scratching activity, gave her a sense of ownership and comfort. Not that it was comfortable. It was flat and small (for her). She needed something larger that would also give her more comfort.”

He couldn’t find anything in stores that worked for her, so he decided to design his own.Continue Reading

Jackson Galaxy just launched his brand new online store, where you will find many of the products shown or mentioned on the show.

New from Petmate: The Jackson Galaxy Collection

Jackson_Galaxy_Collection

If you’ve been watching My Cat From Hell, you’ve probably learned that there are frequently two themes to the challenging cases Jackson works with on the show: vertical space, and play therapy. One of my favorite lines from this season so far is “you’ve got  to catify your house!” If you’re anything like me, you’re probably intrigued with some of the toys, scratching posts and wall shelves Jackson recommends on the show.

Here’s a round up of some of my favorites from recent episodes.

cat-tree-Jackson-Galaxy-recommends

The four-tiered cat tree from Mountain Cat Trees shown above is on Allegra and Ruby’s wish list. I love the combination of natural wood and sisal. These trees are handcrafted, so no two are the same. The wood is treated with a non toxic and environmentally safe clear coat finish. This finish is pet safe, has no odor and helps prolong the life of the tree.

cat-shelves-climbers

I also love these cat climbers. I think Allegra and Ruby would have a blast with these – I just have to find a space in my house to mount them! I particularly like that they have manila roping to define the edges of the shelves. The shelves come in various sizes and even include a corner shelf, and the clean, simple design will go with any decor.

Da-Bird-cat-toy

I don’t think there’s been a single episode of My Cat From Hell when the Da Bird toy hasn’t come out of Jackson’s guitar case. This toy is a perennial favorite at our house.

Review and giveaway: FurCode – the high tech ID tag for your cat

FurCode-pet-id-tags

FurCodes are a modern upgrade to the pet tag of previous generations. Each tag links to an online Pet Profile allowing pet owners to keep their pet’s contact, vet and care information current. You simply enter the tag ID in a web browser and it instantly renders your Pet’s profile page. You can even scan the tag with a Smartphone’s QR code reader. You select which information displays, and you can update or change the information at any time.

The profile section on the FurCodes website allows you enter your contact information, your pet’s veterinarian’s information, medical and vaccination history, and registration information. I particularly like the option to enter medical information, this can be lifesaving if your pet requires medications, is diabetic, or has allergies.

Review, giveaway and special discount: Fizzion Pet Stain and Odor Remover

Fizzion Pet Stain and Odor Remover for Cats

Fizzion Pet Stain and Odor Remover

When Cat Daddy Jackson Galaxy recommended Fizzion Pet Stain and Odor Remover on a recent episode of My Cat From Hell,  I wanted to learn more about it. The friendly folks at Fizzion sent me a bottle so I could try it out.

I’ve used any number of cleaners and odor removers in the past, and there are a couple that I consider my go-to products, so I was curious to see how this one would measure up.

Fizzion is non-toxic and environmentally friendly – definitely a plus as far as I’m concerned. The solution is designed to go to the root of the stain and  odor, and form a shield around the stain while it works on it. Unlike enzymatic cleaners that can require long waiting periods to activate, Fizzion is said to work instantly on contact.Continue Reading
