Conscious Living

How to Shift Your Mood in an Instant

 smilingcat

About a month ago, I talked about how making a conscious decision to get happy can really make a difference in how we feel and how we approach our life.   But some days, our mood and energetic vibration just seem to be such that even getting to the place where we can make that decision can be a bit of a stretch.

For those days, it helps to have a ready list of thoughts, images and actions that can help to shift your mood and vibration almost instantly.  You can’t think of something beautiful or someone you really love and not feel better.  Picture a place where you’ve always felt good in the past, and just thinking about that place will change your mood.  Put on a beautiful piece of music and your vibration will change.

Here are some of my “vibration shifters:”

  • Watching Amber sleep in her sunny spot.
  • Amber’s purr.
  • Listening to music – depending on what mood I’m trying to change, it can be anything from symphonic power metal to Jimmy Buffett.
  • Imagining myself walking along the beach at sunrise.
  • Reading a favorite passage in a favorite book.
  • Ice cream – preferably Ben and Jerry’s chocolate chip cookie dough or Cherry Garcia.

Just writing these down shifted my energy into a better feeling place.  What are your mood shifters?

Never Give up on Your Dream – Part Two

I blogged about never giving up on your dream back in April, when Susan Boyle first burst onto the scene.   Yesterday, she sang “Memories” on “Britain’s Got Talent”, and she is now favored to win in the contest’s final next Sunday.  Here’s the clip from her performance:

As someone who’s moved one step closer to making my own life-long dream of writing and publishing a book come true yesterday, when I submitted the manuscript for “Buckley’s Story – Lessons from a Feline Master Teacher” to my publisher, this idea of never giving up on your dream definitely resonates with me.  While the only thing Susan and I have in common is the fact that we both have a cat, there’s still something about her journey and her performance that is captivating to me.  I know I’ll be cheering for her to win this contest – and hope that she continues to inspire others to follow their dreams.

There is something that Buckley and Susan Boyle have in common.  Buckley also never gave up on her dream.  I can’t wait to share her story with you when the book comes out.

Make a Conscious Decision to Get Happy

happycat

Is there a formula for happiness?  Is there one sure-fire way to achieve everything we want in life?  Well, actually, there just might be.  And it’s as simple, or as complicated, as getting happy.  Simple, because we all have the power to do it.  Complicated, because our conditioning tells us it’s not that easy.

Everything around us is energy, including our thoughts.  Law of Attraction teaches us that like attracts like.  If we focus our thoughts on things that make us happy, we attract more of the same.   But how do we do this in a world that seems to be so full of unhappy things?

We do it by making a conscious decision that we want to be happy.  We have the power to choose our thoughts – so why not choose thoughs that make us feel good?  We can make these conscious choices in every single moment – by choosing to focus on what is working in our lives rather than complaining about what isn’t, by choosing books and television programs that make us feel good rather than depressed or upset, by choosing to be with people who uplift us rather than drag us down into negativity.

Choosing your thoughts, and choosing what to focus on is key in this process.  We often think of choice as something that has to involve a “yes” or “no” decision.  When you begin to think of choice as saying “yes” to what you want, rather than “no” to what you don’t want, you will find your energy shifting.

Once we focus predominantly on that which makes us feel good, we’ll find that the world around us changes.  Life flows more easily.   We attract people and situations into our reality that are pleasant rather than frustrating.   Our lives work.  We get happy.

Today, make a conscious choice:  no matter where I’m going, no matter what I’m doing, no matter who I’m doing it with, I’m going to look for things that make me feel good.

And if you need a little help with feeling good, look to your animal companions.  They’re masters at making themselves feel good.  Have you ever watched a cat follow the sunny spots in the house, or a dog roll around on his back in the freshly mown grass just because it feels sooooo good?

Get happy today!

Choose to Live a Conscious Life

Our planet is undergoing a massive shift in consciousness, and as a result, individuals are questioning the old ways of living and making new, more conscious choices about how to live their lives.  But what does conscious living really mean?

The definition of the word conscious is “to be aware of one’s own existence, sensations, thoughts and surroundings”.  It also means “being fully aware or sensitive to something”, “aware of oneself”, and “deliberate and intentional”.  All these terms take us right to the heart of what conscious living means.

Being aware of our thoughts and emotions allows us to make conscious choices about everything from what we feel like wearing today to which career path we want to take.  Thoughts are energy, and each thought has a vibration attached to it that sends a message to the universe to attract things to us that match the vibration of the thought we send out.  We all have the ability to focus our thoughts, and when we deliberately focus them on what we want rather than on what we don’t want, we begin taking charge of consciously creating our lives.  Being aware of our emotions adds power to this process – emotions are our instant guidance as to whether a thought moves us in the direction of what we want or away from it.  When a thought feels good, we’re moving towards our desires.  When it feels bad, we’re moving in the opposite direction.

Being fully aware is the first step to consciously living our lives.  It is this awareness that allows us to tune in to our inner guidance, and the more we do that, the more we are able to become deliberate and intentional in choosing our thoughts.

Ultimately, conscious living means making choices that are in alignment with who we really are at our core.  Using our emotions as guidance, we can make choices about everything from the foods we eat to the cosmetics we use to the products we buy for our pets.  The more we make these conscious choices, the more whole our lives will become.  Every choice becomes a conscious expression of our authentic selves in the world.  The more we pay attention to what our inner self really wants and needs, the more congruent our lives become.

Be forewarned – conscious living is addictive.  Once you live your life from that place of authenticity, you will have very little tolerance for anything less.

Some conscious choices people make can be as simple as eating organic foods, purchasing cruelty-free personal care products, using environmentally friendly products, and watching movies and television programs that carry a positive message, or as far-reaching as leaving a job that is not in alignment with their authentic self to start their own conscious business.

The important thing is to start somewhere, one small choice at a time.  Make that simple choice, and watch your life begin to change.

How are you celebrating Earth Day?

Flower power

Flowers make us happy.  It’s impossible to look at flowers and not feel good, or at least better.

Feeling good is a choice.  We can choose what we focus on.  One of the best things we can do for ourselves is to make a conscious choice that no matter what we do each day, we’re going to look for things that make us feel good.  Once we make that commitment to be in charge of our own well-being, our energy shifts, we feel happier and lighter, and our lives flow better.

There are a lot of tools to help us feel better, flowers are just one of them.  Others are spending time with our pets, being out in nature, or listening to a favorite piece of music.

On this rainy Monday, I decided to bring nature inside and treated myself to a bouquet of beautiful tulips.  They make me feel lighter every time I look at them.  And beyond the window, I can see the Dogwood tree in my yard just waiting for the sun to come out before bursting into full bloom.   Life is good.

Brighten your life or someone else’s with some flowers today!

Taxes and gratitude

Over the last few days leading up to Tax Day, I’ve been hearing a lot of people complain about having to write a check to the IRS, about how much they have to pay in taxes, and about how everything just keeps getting more and more expensive.  This seems to be the prevailing “story” and it makes for good conversation around the water cooler and in social situations, because it’s something everybody can agree on, right?

Well, maybe you should rethink how you think and talk about taxes and money in general.  Thoughts and words carry energy and send a vibration into the world.  The vibration you send out guides what you attract into your life, so by thinking and talking about money from a place of lack and scarcity, you will only attract more of the same into your life.

Why not change your story and think about money from a place of gratitude?  If you didn’t have to pay taxes, it would mean you’re not making any money.  Write that check to the IRS from a place of appreciation!  I know – it’s a leap in consciousness, but shifting how you view money really works.

The following is an excerpt from an Abraham Hicks workshop set to beautiful music and lovely images from nature.  It’s a wonderful explanation of how your money situation can’t change unless you change your vibration.  The music and images enhance the message by reinforcing Abraham’s core teachings of allowing things into your life by being in a state of appreciation.

Lessons from Party Cat – courtesy of Abraham

Abraham is a collective consciousness speaking through Esther Hicks.  To Wayne Dyer, they are “the great Masters of the Universe”, Louise Hay has called them “some of the best teachers on the planet today”.  A veritable who’s who of speakers, teachers and authors continue to publicly acknowledge and praise the immense value of the wisdom that is pouring forth through Esther.  They’ve been a major influence in my life over the past two or three years.

One of my favorite pieces is this video on the lessons the animals (or “beasts”, as Abraham lovingly calls them) teach us, as demonstrated by “Party Cat”:

The power of laughter, and kitty mayhem

Yesterday I talked about how smiling can shift your vibration.   Today, I thought I’d talk about laughter.  Statistics show that the average kindergarten student laughs 300 times a day, yet the average adult only laughs 17 times a day.   The benefits of laughter have been proven in multiple research studies conducted at major universities.  Laughter reduces stress, strengthens the immune system, provides pain relief (the endorphins released while laughing are more potent than equivalent amounts of morphine!), and helps integrate both hemispheres of the brain.  It’s even equivalent to a small amount of exercise as laughing massages all the organs of the body.

A sense of humor provides the balance we all need to navigate the inevitable turbulence of life.  Everyone loves a person who can make them laugh.  Why not try a dose of laugh therapy today?  Exchange jokes with friends or co-workers, watch a funny movie, send someone a funny greeting card.

To get you started, I’ll share this recent entry from a friend’s blog with you.  She lives with seven cats, and Morning Mayhem describes a recent morning when all the kitties went a little nuts.  It’s one of the funniest pieces of cat writing I’ve seen in a while.  I’m sure parents of multiple cats can relate!

Shift your vibration – smile!

We are not just physical beings in a physical universe, we are vibrational beings in a universe made up of energy. We naturally attract what is in harmony with our state of being. Vibrations are the signal that we send out to the universe, and the universe responds with manifestations that match that signal. So it makes sense that we want to try and maintain our vibration at a level that allows us to receive the joy, abundance and happiness we want to attract into our lives.

However, we all have those days when joy seems like it’s not even in the same solar system as we are. When we feel frustrated, angry or depressed, changing our vibration can seem like an impossible task. When we’re in that kind of a vibrational state, even a minor shift in vibration can make a difference.  One way to do that is with a smile.  Even if you really don’t feel like smiling, the mere physical act of smiling will shift your vibration gently into a better feeling direction.

And if you need a little bit of help to find that smile, check out the kitten photos on cuteoverload.com – I dare you to look at some of the photos on the site and not at least crack the beginnings of a smile!

Clearing the clutter

The physical surroundings we live in every day in our homes, offices and cars have a strong impact on us.  When you exist in less than desirable environments, for example a messy car or a desk covered with piles, the space that surrounds you is not an accurate reflection of the Source within you.  Cluttered environments drain your energy.  Just think about the last time you organized a drawer or cleaned your car – do you remember how accomplished you felt, and how you were able to approach the rest of your day from a much lighter perspective?  That’s because you released stagnant, cluttered energy.

You don’t need to take on everything at once.  If you think you need to declutter your entire office , it can feel too overwhelming and you may not even start.  Begin with one small project, a drawer at a time, and watch how your energy changes as you clear out the clutter in your life.
