Review: The World According to Bob by James Bowen

the-world-according-to-bob-the-further-adventures-of-one-man-and-his-street-wise-cat

I fell in love with Bob, the ginger (orange) tom cat and his human, James Bowen, when I read A Street Cat Named Bob last spring. The story of a down on his luck street musician who was busking the streets of London with his cat captured my heart – and the hearts of millions of readers around the world. A Street Cat Named Bob became an international bestseller which has been translated into 25 languages. The book debuted in the US last week, and immediately landed on the New York Times Bestseller List.

I have been following James and Bob on their Facebook page, and I was thrilled to find out that a second book was in the works. I pre-ordered The World According to Bob: The Further Adventures of One Man and His Street-wise Cat as soon as it showed up on Amazon. And like the first book, I couldn’t put this one down.Continue Reading

Exclusive Interview with James Bowen, Author of A Street Cat Named Bob

James-Bowen-Street-Cat-Bob

I have been in love with Bob ever since I read the British edition of A Street Cat Named Bob back in April of last year. The book was released in the US  last week, and is already climbing the bestseller lists. It will debut at #7 on the New York Times Bestseller List next week. I’ve been following James and Bob on their Facebook page for the past year, and I am thrilled for the incredible success they’ve been experiencing. As far as life changing cats go, Bob is in a category of his own.

I was delighted when the US publisher offered me the opportunity to send a few questions across the Atlantic to James Bowen.

James, when we last “spoke” via email in May of last year, I asked you how your life had changed since the book came out in the UK. Continue Reading

Review: Urban Tigers Two: More Tales of a Cat Vet by Kathy Chisholm

Urban_Tigers

When we first met Dr. Emily McBride In Urban Tigers: Tales of a Cat Vet, she charmed readers with stories from her first year at the Ocean View Cat Hospital in Nova Scotia, Canada, owned by the flamboyant Dr. Hughie. In Urban Tigers Two: More Tales of a Cat Vet, Emily’s adventures continue.

Like the first book, Urban Tigers Two offers an in depth look at what really goes on at a cat hospital. From eccentric clients to challenging medical cases, Emily sees it all. Drawn from the author’s own experience in a feline practice, much of the book brought back fond memories of my years working in veterinary clinics. (Trust me, even though some of the clients in the book may seem a bit  “over the top,” these demanding and sometimes oddball and quirky clients do exist in real life!)

There’s plenty of heartbreak in this book – that’s the nature of a life spent working with animals. But the book is also filled with lots of smiles and sometimes laugh-out-loud humor.

What I loved best about the bookContinue Reading

A Street Cat Named Bob Makes US Debut – Enter to Win

A_Street_Cat_Named_Bob

James Bowen and his cat Bob have been capturing hearts since A Street Cat Named Bob: And How He Saved My Life was first published in the UK last spring. The book finally debuts in the United States today. Even though the US publisher changed the original subtitle to How One Man And His Cat Found Hope on the Streets, the story remains the same, and is no less compelling with a new subtitle and cover.

I reviewed the UK edition last year, and have been following the unfolding story of James and Bob since then – I just can’t get enough of this modern day fairy tale. From book signings with lines snaking around the block to a movie deal, James’ life changed in ways he never could have imagined when he first found Bob on the doorstep of his apartment building. James was living hand to mouth on the streets of London, and had just moved into subsidized housing as part of a drug recovery program after being homeless. The last thing he needed was a pet. But he just couldn’t turn his back on the injured cat, so he took him in and nursed him back to health. He never intended to keep him. Once Bob had recovered, James sent him on his way.

But Bob had other plans. Continue Reading

Review and Giveaway: The Cat Sitter’s Cradle by Blaize and John Clement

The_Cat_Sitter's_Cradle_John_Clement

The Cat Sitter mystery series, featuring Dixie Hemingway, a pet sitter who lives on one of the Florida keys, has been a favorite of mine ever since the cover of the first book in the series, Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter, caught my eye.  The series was authored by Blaize Clement, and after she passed away in 2011, her son, John Clement, continued the series. Blaize had been collaborating on plots and characters for future novels with John.

The Cat Sitter’s Cradle is the latest in the series. Do covers get any more adorable than this one?

From the publisher:

No mission is impawsible for pet sitter Dixie Hemingway (no relation to you-know-who). Continue Reading
