The contest showcases the very best in the feline field of professional writers, broadcasters, photographers and graphic artists. The Muse Medallions were awarded at the association’s annual conference in Los Angeles earlier this month. I wasn’t able to attend the conference this year, and just received my medal in the mail.
I’m very proud of this award, but it really belongs to you, my readers. Without you, I wouldn’t be inspired to write and blog every day and to bring you all the information you need to keep your feline family members (and yourself) happy and healthy. Thank you for being a part of the best community of cat lovers on the web!
While nothing quite equals the moment when Leslie Smith, the Editor for DogTime/CatTime Media, announced that The Conscious Cat won the 2012 Pettie for Best Cat Blog during the virtual award ceremony on October 12, there’s been a little more excitement even after the win. Since noone had more to do with us winning this award than all of you who read The Conscious Cat each and every day, I want to share all the fun with you.
A week ago, our trophy arrived in the mail. As you can see in the picture above, Allegra and Ruby approve! The beautiful statue joined last year’s award for Best Pet Blog on my desk, and inspires me to continue blogging every day.
DogTime/Cat Time Media asked each Pettie winner to record an acceptance speech. You can watch my speech below:Continue Reading

And we’re even more excited that this award comes with a $1000 prize, which will go to Kitten Associates, a Connecticut based private rescue group founded by fellow Pettie nominee Robin Olson of Covered in Cat Hair.
Thank you again to all of you who read this blog every day, and who voted tirelessly to help us win this award. This award belongs to all of you!
Congratulations to the other winners, especially our friends Deb Barnes of Zee&Zoey, Joanne McGonagle of The Tiniest Tiger, and Lorie Huston of Pet Health Care Gazette.
It’s been a long wait. You voted for The Conscious Cat for Best Pet Blog and Best Cat Blog for the entire month of July. Then we all had to wait. And wait. And wait some more.
Well, the wait is finally over: we’ll find out who the winners are during a virtual ceremony on Friday, October 12, at 3pm PDT.
Every Pettie winner will receive $1000 to be donated to a shelter or rescue group of their choice. If I win, I will donate my prize money to Kitten Associates, the Connecticut based rescue group founded by fellow Pettie nominee Robin Olson of Covered in Cat Hair.

I am honored and excited excited that The Conscious Cat was named as one of the Top 5 Pet Blogs by SheKnows.com, one of the top 10 most visited websites for women!
“Cats are some of the most widely loved — and misunderstood — creatures out there. Luckily, websites like The Conscious Cat exist to give us feline lovers information we didn’t know we needed. For example: Did you know that you can over-vaccinate your cat? Neither did we, until the Conscious Cat told us. The blog came out of author Ingrid King’s love for her adopted cat, Buckley. She even wrote a book about the experience of adopting Buckley and the grief she went through when she succumbed to heart disease. Another must-read for all cat lovers.”
