Cat Calls: Wonderful Stories and Practical Advice from a Veteran Cat SitterĀ combines two of my favorite things in one book: cats, and New York City. Jeanne Adlon has been a cat sitter in Manhattan for thirty-five years, and has cared for hundreds of cats. I looked forward to reading her stories, which range from keeping cats kosher andĀ feeding pampered felines out of Waterford goblets toĀ wrestling a determined cat for the Thanksgiving turkey andĀ playing ghost with a psychic cat. There’s even a story about the time John Lennon came into the pet shop Jeanne ran at the time to purchase the big cat tree out of the front window.
What I didn’t expect was solid, common sense advice on everything from adopting a new cat andĀ litter box behaviors toĀ play time andĀ scratching. With the help of co-author Susan Logan, the editor-in-chief of Cat Fancy magazine, Adlon, who is also a columnist on CatChannel.com, shares her experience with all things cat.
Presented in a pleasing format, the stories and the advice are accompanied by charming illustrations. This is an enjoyableĀ little book, whether you’re looking for stories from a New York pet sitter, or advice on how to care for your feline family members.

About the author
Ingrid King is an award-winning author, former veterinary hospital manager, and veterinary journalist who is passionate about cats.
I am also a cat sitter and would love to hear her adventures with cats. And I love to learn new things tips about cats. Thank-you, Ingrid.
Love reading anything and everything about cats – have a whole bookshelf of cat literature. Also like the idea of the “tips”. I foster cats for my local County animal shelter and deal with so many different types and personalities (right now, I have thee 10-week old kittens who are ready for adoption and a mom and seven 3-week old babies in the other room). I can use all the help I can get!!
I would LOVE a copy of this book! You just can’t hear/read too much about kitties!
I’ve had a few cats over the years; with every one I learn a little more. Now, at 62, I have two cats and feel so much more involved with their thinking. But I always want to understand even MORE about how they are trying to communicate with me! š
I’d love to read this and compare Jeanne’s cat sitting stories with mine. Maybe I’d get some good tips on dealing with cats who do not love their cat sitters!
I love to read anything involving cats. I would also appreciate any insight that I don’ have since I am owned by 5 cats. š
I’d love 2 win because I love reading and my favorites are books about cats. I love to relate cat behaviors and stories to the antics and shenanighans of our own little guy! He’s taught me how fascinating and entertaining cats truly are!
you have some of the best giveaways š I love reading about kitties
This sounds like a VERY interesting book. I love reading, especially anything about cats.
Hello! I want to thank Ingrid for such a wonderful review. I hope all of you who want to buy Cat Calls enjoy it as much as Susan Logan and I did writing it–its a love letter to cats and cat owners (and available on Amazon.com for a great discount!)
Wishing all of you and your wonderful kitties the very best—Jeanne Adlon, coauthor of Cat Calls

Now THIS is something I would like to win. Why?? Simply put, one can never have too many cat books!! (and by one I mean “me” aka the Crazy Cat Lady)…
I tweeted it also for extra entry. I know you follow me.
I love learning about cats through stories from others experiences or experts advice. A book about cats blends my two passions my cat and literature!
I would love to win this book because I love stories about our furry feline friends and love information on how to make them have fun and healthier lives.
I still consider myself a newcomer to the cat world and could really benefit from reading about someone elses vast experience! I love my Misty girl and want to provide the best environment I possibly can for her.
Wow, 35 years of cat-sitting experiences adds up to a lot of a cats, and Susan is a gem of a writer. It’s a win win combo, I’d love to read.
I’d love to win this book, I’m always on the search for ways to make the Crew happier and healthier.
I definitely want to win this book– so I can read it to Big Bad Baby Twinkle (who SWATS the cat sitter, follows the cat sitter around and yells at her, unties the cat sitter’s shoe laces, DEMANDS to be fed as soon as the poor patient wonderful cat sitter walks in the door), so that BBBT will see the errors of her ways. Do you think that will make her feel sorry for her cat sitter?????
M…. O … L ….
I love learning more about the feline species and their mysterious behavior… Quite an interesting read it seems!
I would love to read the cat sitting stories. Besides creating cat art, I also cat sit for many cats in my New York apartment building. The book sounds wonderful.
