If you have a spouse or family member who complains about smelly/stinky litter boxes, then the answer should be a resounding yes.

Almost Invisible Cat Litter is a unique, high density amorphous silica gel that neutralizes the smell of urine in under 30 seconds and evaporates much of the liquid, keeping your litter box dry at all times. Without moisture, bacteria will not form and the litter box stays totally odor free far longer than any other litter product. Incredibly, with only 1” to 1.5” of litter in your litter box, you should expect to be totally odor free for 3 – 4 weeks depending on the size of your cat. Just scoop solids and thoroughly stir the litter at least once a day. Even solids that are not buried will be quickly dried out to the point that they cannot be smelled also, even at close range. Really!

27 Comments on Invisible Cat Litter: 2023 Review & Benefits

    • Some people recommend changing litters gradually. I prefer to have at least two boxes, one with the old litter and one with the new. This is what I recommend anytime you change litter, not just for this litter.

  1. We have one litter box in the bedroom since I first introduced a new old cat into the family. I left it there because for a long time I sometimes needed to keep her in the bedroom with the baby gate closed. Now, she just continues to use it and one of the other cats decided it was handy when he’s sleeping in the bedroom. The litter doesn’t track, and I’m appreciating that. But one inch for one cat did not last long. By the end of a week, with regular & thoro daily stirring, it was starting to have an aroma. I added another 0.5 inch when a second cat started using the box some of the time (he uses a larger box in another room most of the time). Week two, and it doesn’t seem like it’s going to last much longer. If it only lasts two weeks, it’s expensive!

  2. Does anyone know if this litter differs from Nullodor? Are they both the same type of silica crystals? It turns out the Litter Robot sells Nullodor, so if they are similar than “Almost Invisible Cat Litter” would also work in my machine.

  3. I’m glad to get this info. Have been thinking of trying this new type of litter, tho the litter I have been using controls odors very well and lasts a long time (scooped once-twice daily), it does track a bit. I’ll check the “transition” instructions, as two of my cats are 13 & 15 and I wasn’t sure how they would like a change of this sort.

    • Almost Invisible Cat Litter does not stick to fur or paws an thus is “minimally tracking.” It will never be in your bed or the next room, etc. The particles are small (slightly larger than sand) and are light so they are easily kicked out of the litter tray or “scattered” around, but these particles do not roll so where ever they land is where they remain. We recommend litter boxes with high sides (we use a storage bin from Staples to reduce scatter caused by StovePipe and his 3 siblings) as our litter box.

      • I have 12 cats and don’t see how the urine will just evaporate or how you wouldn’t smell the poo. Please clarify.

        • It all gets very rapidly dried up. Dried = no odor. But you still have to scoop out the poo, and stir the litter at least once / day so the urine doesn’t accumulate in one place. And of course, with so many cats you need many litter boxes.

  4. Thank you for this post. I’d never heard of this product before. I decided to order a bag and see how my fur babies like it. I own a Litter Robot, so I no longer have to scoop, but the low odorless, dustless and no tracking properties would be really nice. This is pretty expensive though. $28 for 9lbs when I usually buy store bought 13lbs for ~$10.

    • Almost Invisible Cat Litter uses less material (1 – 1.5”) in a litter pan and it lasts longer than other litters, so the comparison on a price per pound basis is not relevant. The more appropriate comparison is cost per cat per month and our product is quite competitive with a cost around $9 per cat per month.

Our product is recommended for the Scoop Away robotic boxes and other “raking” types of automatic boxes, but it does not work well in the inversion or tumbling type of robotic boxes. • Oh dear, The Litter Robot is a tumbling robotic device. The litter container is a ball that rolls 3/4 of a cycle to drop the cats refuse into a tray below the ball, and then returns to the original position. It requires a “clumping” litter.

    • This is the explanation the company president previously provided to me, Rita – I hope it helps. If you have additional questions, they’ll be happy to answer them:

“There are there are two types of Silica Gels: Crystalline Silica and Amorphous. Dust from crystalline silica is known to cause Silicosis. Almost Invisible Cat Litter is amorphous and it is also indurated. Almost Invisible Cat Litter has virtually no dust and does not cause silicosis. The initial safety tests for our product were performed by a prominent California cat-only veterinarian in 2004 & 2005, I cannot mention her name by contract, but she is still using this type of product with her own cats and recommending it to her customers.

  5. I have multiple cats and I’ve been using Almost Invisible Cat Litter ever since I heard of it, maybe two years ago. It’s terrific! It is less smelly, less messy, less icky than other cat litters, by a long shot. We ran out once and had to use some kitty litter that had previously been our favorite: boy, did we ever miss Almost Invisible! The rule of thumb is that you should have as many litter boxes as you have cats, plus one. We have two litter boxes, and the cats seem okay with that. The litter may be contributing to cat litter box harmony.

Also, after a few months of using the litter, I bought one of their litter scoops. They cost more than your usual scoop, but they will last forever. They are like a lovely industrial-strength tool that works much much better than any other scoop I have owned (I shudder to think how much litter I have scooped in my life!), because they are made of strong metal and are large so fewer scoops are necessary to clean things out. They make me think of a high quality cooking tool.Hmmmm . . . . maybe I’ll get another one for my second litter box.

  6. Their prices are better than other online sites. I’ll be ordering 2 bags. My (new coming foster)insolation room is small and traditional litter just fills the air with dust. So I use dust freesilica even though it tracks

    • The one local pet store that carried this stopped carrying it (not enough people knew to buy it, I guess), so I set up an automatic monthly order. Now I don’t have to worry about running out. I also don’t have to go buy it and lug it home.

  7. I’ve been curious about this stuff. I love Dr. Elsey’s but my boy tracks it all over! If I could eliminate that it would be fantastic.

    • This product is a far cry from the fine, sandy, clumping litter that we know cats like. If this resembles the crystals available, I can’t imagine making a cat use it. So many litters and litter boxes are for owners, not cats. Then many end up in an animal control situation or shelter for not using the boxes they have been offered. We love fine, sandy, clumping litter in great big litter boxes without hoods. We have 4 boxes and 2 cats and I have a special way of keeping them clean. Interested?

      • Every cat is different, and there’s no one single solution that works for every cat. I, too, advocate for uncovered boxes, but there are some cats that seem to prefer the privacy of a covered box. Litter preferences may also vary with individual cats.

      • Almost Invisible Cat Litter has a particle size that is very close to sand and is totally unscented. This is the type of litter that most cats prefer to use. We have a few success stories of cats that used Almost Almost Invisible Cat Litter after refusing to use other types of litter. We also sell Anti-Icky-Poo, which is guaranteed to remove odors outside the litter box and is the most recommended product by veterinarians for odor. The products that you refer to as “crystals” probably have a particle size closer to pebbles which many cats do not like.
