Cats and Fish: To Feed or Not to Feed?

cat-with-fish

Fish is not a natural part of a cat diet, and yet, so many cats love it. And because so many pet food manufacturers offer a large variety of fish-based foods, unsuspecting cat parents think they’re doing something wonderful and delicious for their feline charges. While it’s tempting to indulge a finicky palate, canned fish is not necessarily good for your cat’s health and might even be harmful.Continue Reading

Cardboard Cat Homes: A Castle Fit for a Princess (2023 Review)

cardboard-cat-castle

We all know cats love boxes. We also know that not all humans love having used shipping boxes all over their home. As much as Allegra enjoys boxes, I admit that I’m hesitant to bring shipping boxes inside. They’re usually pretty dirty after sitting on a truck for days, and dirty boxes and white carpet – well, you get the idea. Enter Cardboard Cat Homes: all the fun of a box and then some, and they’re super cute, too.Continue Reading

I’ve been feeding raw for the past ten years, and have seen my cats thrive on it. For the past five years, I’ve been feeding Darwin’s, and it has become a perennial favorite.Continue Reading

Mews and Nips: Walter the Cat Becomes Star of Chevy Commercial

cat-car-dashboard

Did you happen to catch the new Chevy truck commercial featuring a grey tabby cat? Walter the cat became a star in the ad, a spoof on the usual “a man and his truck and his dog” meme that is more commonly used in these types of ads. Walter plays with balls, herds cows, and even fetches a stick. For more about how Walter became a star, visit Musebyclio.com.

How Two Cats from Key West Became Literary Scottish Cats

Guest post by Lucy Burdette

If you have read any of the ten previous Key West food critic mysteries, you know that right from the beginning, there have always been cats. In the previous book, The Key Lime Crime, T-bone the ginger cat whom I rescued from Key West SPCA made his debut. He was very proud to be featured on that cover – and annoyed that he didn’t make it onto the new book. (And he also believes that he rescued me, not the other way around.) I tried to explain that the characters in Scone of Contention were traveling to Scotland and couldn’t reasonably be expected to take their cats along. And I promised he would have a cameo on Facetime when Hayley called home to Key West. He only glared.Continue Reading

Review: PetFusion Non-Stick Litter Box

One of my pet peeves when it comes to litter boxes is that many new litter boxes are designed to either make cleaning the litter box easier, or hide the litter box from view. Neither of these two reasons have anything to do with what cats want or need, and everything to do with human sensibilities.Continue Reading
