Remembering Ruby: That Time When Ruby Helped Me Clean

I am so grateful to have eight years of Ruby’s Reflections to look back on, even though of course, eight years isn’t nearly enough. We don’t realize how quickly we can forget the small, everyday things after we lose a loved one. It’s one of the many reasons why I encourage people to journal after they lose a cat and write down as many memories as they can. Capturing memories while they’re fresh in our minds is a precious gift to ourselves.

Today’s memory goes back to April of 2012. Ruby had been with us for about a year. She was always involved in everything I did, and that included cleaning the house (well, except when it came to the “big, scary monster.”) But that time, she got a little too helpful for her own good.

Awww, that was a lovely memory! I enjoyed reading it!

My house panther Midnight was a Laundry Cat-Sistant. When my mother folded the laundry, Midnight helped. Sort of. She told him to ‘fix this’ and he did by kneading what she pointed to. Midnight was very good at what he did, but he refused to give my mother back the towels.

Both are no longer with us, but I suspect both are ‘fixing’ things at The Great Hereafter.

Amazingly, Lulu is not afraid of the vacuum. Kiki and Pele will take off running when they even hear me open the closet door where I keep the vacuum.

I use vinegar to clean just about everything. Need to look into a steam cleaner for the wood floors. Great Tips and reminders for all.

That was quite a cleaning adventure. It sounds like the cleaning “won” that day. Better to have gotten to it before her, pet safe products are definitely the better choice but still not 100% safe. I really wish I had began journaling, it’s clearly wonderful to have these memories secure with all of the details.
