Basepaws is offering a $40 discount on their test kit to celebrate Mother’s Day and cat moms everywhere! I sure wouldn’t have thought of a DNA test kit as a Mother’s Day gift, but if you or your mom have been thinking about this, this is a great time to do it. If you order by April 30, the kit will be delivered in time for Mother’s Day.

How it works

Have you ever wondered about your cat’s genetic background? Maybe you were curious what breeds might make up your rescue cat’s genes? Or maybe you’d like to know whether you should be worried about any genetic health conditions so you can be proactive about them? The Basepaws Cat DNA test answers all of these questions.

Allegra’s results

I submitted Allegra’s sample last year, and found the results fascinating. The 33 page report goes into great detail about breed composition and personality traits, along with information about how to interpret the results.

The health marker report looks at a long list of diseases that have a genetic component. Thankfully, Allegra came up clear on all counts.

How cool. May I ask, how is the sample collected? Is it like an interior cheek swab or something easier to collect (such as hair)?

It’s an interior cheek swab – super quick and easy.

I would do this for the health information. Breed doesn’t really matter to me. I love my cats no matter what they are.
