Remembering Ruby: That Time When Ruby Unplugged the Computer

As I’m mourning my beautiful little girl, the memories keep flooding in. It’s still bittersweet to remember her, and I miss her terribly every day. But “talking” about her helps, and I thought you might enjoy taking a few trips down memory lane with me. “Remembering Ruby” won’t be a regular series, but I will share memories as I feel moved to do so.

The photo at the top of the post shows one of her first forays onto my desk, it was taken a few days after she joined our family. Today’s memory goes back to October of 2011. Ruby had been with us for about six months then, so that would have made her about 15 months old.

She loved being in my lap while I was working. She was a good office assistant and took her duties very seriously. But she could also be rather rambunctious, and when she got bored with sitting on my lap, she would explore my desk.

“There was a big fat blue cable hanging halfway down to the floor from the desk. It looked like it was put there just for me. My own personal kitty jungle gym! I just knew it would be great fun to try and dangle from it!

It was fun. For about ten seconds. …”

Read Ruby’s Reflections: Ruby and the Computer Cable for the rest of the story.

I love this typical Ruby story! Ruby still lives on! But Ruby would’ve never pulled a prank like this,
there must be some other explanation, ha, ha. Way to go darling Ruby where ever you are tonight.

    Dear Ingrid,
Ruby reminds me so much of my sweet Tori who died in Nov. my grief is so bad at times I can hardly stand it but God has and is my only hope to pull me out of this because I know he loves me and will never leave me. I miss my baby so much. I pray everyday for my poor heart to heal. This story is so sweet.

Ruby was part of my family with all the stories i read about her. My vet said the right thing. 70% of cat owners shouldn’t own them. I see it all the time how owners treat them!!!!!

Awww. Even when they’re incorrigible we love them to pieces! After almost 13 years my Winnie still can’t be near any wires or the cord will be destroyed. My two think their names are Getoffathere and Getouttathere! Love to Ruby’s spirit. ❤️

Memories like this are fun to look back on and no matter how bad you are hurting or what kind of trouble they got in, it still makes you smile. I couldn’t help but laugh when Ruby said sometimes she thinks Ohnoruby was her name. When we first got Pono he was always in so much trouble. We would holler no, Pono, no. Well, because “no” was part of his name, eventually I think he started to think when we said Pono, he was in trouble. So, we had to start saying stop when he would be bad. I know right now your emotions are still raw, but eventually Ruby’s memories will come back and make you smile.
