I love advent calendars. I’ve had one ever since I was a little kid. My parents used to get super creative. Even though I remember having store-bought calendars with a piece of chocolate behind every window, what really stands out in my memory are the amazing advent calendars they created from scratch.
One year, they built a little house from matchboxes. I’m pretty sure my dad made that one. He covered 24 matchboxes in colorful paper, glued them together in the shape of a house, and attached a tiny little drawer handle to each box. Each day, I got to open one box to find a little present. (And in case you’re wondering: I was really good about not cheating. I never wanted to spoil my own surprise.)
Another year, my mom cut a piece of dark green felt in the shape of a Christmas tree and sewed on 24 felt pockets. Each pocket was filled with a surprise.
These days, I try to find cat advent calendars and usually buy a few at a time, one for myself, and some extras for friends. And I thought it would be fun to spread the love and do a giveaway of one for one lucky reader.
The Purrfect Harmony advent calendar features a picture and a verse from the holiday poem “A Kitten’s Christmas”. It does not contain chocolate.
