Q&A With Tiffanie McCullough: Cats, TNR, Feline Nutrition & Busting Stereotypes

tiffanie-mccullough-trapking-solutions

I first met Tiffany McCullough at Cat Camp NYC earlier this year, but didn’t have much of a chance to chat with her until we saw each other again at CatCon. We only talked for a few minutes amid the (wonderful) craziness that is CatCon, but I knew right then and there that I had met a kindred spirit, and that I wanted to introduce you to this amazing woman.Continue Reading

I’ve always felt that writers and cats are the purrfect combination. I’m not sure I could write anything worth publishing without the assistance of Allegra and Ruby, and I certainly never would have written Buckley’s Story or started The Conscious Cat if it hadn’t been for Buckley and Amber. Writers and Their Cats celebrates this special relationship.Continue Reading

Review: DIY Capsule Kit for Cats

Capsuline-capsule-kit

Rumor has it there are some cats who take pills easily, but if my personal experience and that with my readers’ and clients’ cats is any indication, they’re few and far between.

There are multiple options for pilling cats, from quickly shoving the pill deep into the cat’s mouth to using a pill gun to pill pockets to crushing up the pill and mixing it with a small amount of food (caution: the latter may not be appropriate for all types of medication, check with your veterinarian to be sure). Many medications are also available in liquid form, which may make dosing easier for some cat owners. Some can even be compounded into tuna or chicken flavored liquids. Some medications can be compounded into a transdermal cream that is rubbed on the inside of the cat’s ear. Continue Reading

7 Foods You Should Never Feed Your Cat

cat-at-table

Most cats are picky eaters, and as such, less likely to be interested in some human foods than dogs, but because a cat’s digestive system is different from a human’s, some human foods can be highly toxic and even deadly to cats.

The following seven foods should never be given to cats. If your cat accidentally ingests any of these foods, emergency veterinary treatment may be necessary and an immediate visit to the veterinarian is essential.Continue Reading

After writing eight installments of the Key West food critic mystery series (the eighth, Death on the Menu, was out yesterday), I’ve developed so many characters that it’s almost hard to keep track of them. “Oh wait,” I’ll say to myself, “what the heck is Lorenzo or Miss Gloria or Officer Steve Torrence doing when all this is happening?” The one thing I never forget to include is the cats. In my real life, I begged for my first cat for my thirteenth birthday, and I haven’t been without one since. So my series wouldn’t feel right without them either.Continue Reading
