What if cats were sent on missions to fix broken human lives? What if, once they’ve successfully accomplished their missions, they establish a “heart lock” with a human, a bond so strong that it will last forever? And what if there is no such thing as linear time at the Rainbow Bridge? “No waiting, no sense of missing someone, no broken hearts.” This is the premise of Confessions of an Angel Cat.

I’m a huge fan of Nic Tatano’s books, especially the ones that combine romance with cats, and I had been eagerly awaiting his newest book. In Confessions of an Angel Cat, Nic introduces us to Murphy, whose assignment is to help Maggie Ryan, a seriously ill teenage girl who is on the verge of giving up.

I don’t want to give you any more of the plot, because I don’t want to spoil the story for you, but believe me when I tell you that this is the kind of book you won’t be able to put down once you start reading, and at the same time, you won’t want it to end.

I fell in love with Murphy on the first few pages. All of the human characters are immensely likable. There’s even a heaven-sent tortoiseshell cat! But what really hooked me is the author’s version of the Rainbow Bridge, and the idea of the “heart lock” – concepts that are carried throughout the book, and that will have you look at your cats in a whole new light.

I’m not quite sure what genre this book belongs in. It’s obviously a cat book. It’s definitely a love story. It will make you look at your “heart lock” cats in a new light. It’s entertaining, heartwarming and inspirational, and it will stay with you long after you turned the final page.
