When I reviewed the Jackson Galaxy Donut Cat Bed in February, I mentioned in the review that I had a feeling that we would need to get a second one, since Allegra and Ruby both love this bed so much. Allegra in particular surprised me, since she’s usually pretty lukewarm about cat beds.

Initially, the girls worked out a sharing arrangement between the Donut Bed and the PetFusion Ultimate Lounge Bed, which I also had in my office at the time. They both love that bed, and for a while, this seemed to work. They would alternate who slept in which bed. Until it didn’t work anymore.

There were too many times when Ruby, who can be a little brat sometimes, simply didn’t like it when Allegra was in the Donut Bed. She would pounce on a peacefully sleeping Allegra. Allegra is a lover, not a fighter, so she would simply leave, and then watch Ruby curl up in the bed from across the room. You should have seen her sad face! When I mentioned this to our friends at Jackson Galaxy, they immediately sent us a second bed.

Within seconds of putting the second bed in my office, Allegra was in it. She was one happy girl!

I was actually going to have the girls tell you about all of this themselves, but there was so much shouting and arguing over who had the story straight that I told them if they couldn’t be respectful of each other, they were not allowed to talk on the blog.

Once Ruby discovered that there were now two Donut Beds in the office, she quickly claimed the original one.

For the most part, this new arrangement is working. Every once in a while, Ruby still decides that she has to be in the bed that Allegra is in, and I caught Allegra a couple of times hovering over a sleeping Ruby. Because – well, they’re cats.

Ruby: Allegra, is Mom mad at us?

Allegra: Why would you think that, Ruby?

Ruby: Because she wouldn’t let us write on the computer.

Allegra: That’s on you, little one. You were being so bratty that she had to ask for a second bed. And then you wouldn’t shut up about kicking me out of the new bed. You just never know when to stop, do you?

Ruby: blows raspberry at Allegra.

Allegra: Sigh.

Ruby: But Allegra, I don’t want Mom to be mad at us.

Allegra: She’s not mad at us. She loves us, even though I sometimes wonder what she sees in you…

Ruby: I’m going to spend extra time cuddling with Mom today.

Allegra: Good! Then I can have both beds to myself!

7 Comments on When One Jackson Galaxy Donut Bed Isn’t Enough

  1. I thought I had a solution to a problem like that years ago. I figured if I brought home two identical beds, there was no way Tinkerbelle could keep Ronan from using one. I learned quickly that if I didn’t put them in different places, she would lay over both of them! What a princess.

  2. Isn’t that just like sisters! What one wants the other does. And usually the same thing. It’s nice, each have their own now.

  3. Our cat SapphoLily LOVES this bed! She likes to nap in the early evening on our pool patio, which is completely screened in. It is south central Florida, but in the winter, it can be chilly and I worried about it not being warm enough. She has a thick blanket, soft towels, and a self-warming cat mat that she likes to lounge on out there. She is fussy about fabric (loves the real wool rugs in the house), so when Ingrid mentioned the appeal of the soft covering on this JG donut, I got one. It usually takes awhile for her to try something new. I had gently brushed the bed with her rubber grooming brush to give it her scent. She leaned against it for a second and then surprised me by jumping right in it, curling up, and going sound asleep! Prior to adopting us, she had been outside for a bit (not feral, though), and sleeps quite lightly, always on guard. So it was a wonderful thing to see her sleep so soundly. Obviously she feels safe in it. We sit out there and read, and she naps in it. Even now that the nights are warmer, if she doesn’t nap in it, she curls up against it. I had tried two different similar style beds before Ingrid’s first review, and she had no interest in them at all. Thanks again, Ingrid!

    • Thank you for letting me know how much SapphoLily loves her donut bed, Marie! I swear, whatever that bed is made out of, it’s magical!
