Mews and Nips: Stray Cat Made Ambulance Service His New Home

Holly Tonini/Observer-Reporter
Herman II rests on a backup stretcher inside the garage at Ambulance & Chair Service.

Herman II, an 8-year-old cat, has made the ambulance station in Washington, PA his home, and the stretcher his bed. “He pretty much runs the business,” said Manager Rodney Rohrer, who is allergic to cats. “He has a lot of different beds around here. He likes to make himself comfortable.” Herman wandered into the ambulance garage as a stray kitten several years ago. He is the successor of the original Herman, who was the deparment’s pet for about 20 years. For more about Herman II and some wonderful photos, visit the Observer-Reporter.

If you missed any of the stories featured on the Conscious Cat this week, here’s a recap: on Monday, we reported on a new study that looked at the connection between periodontal and kidney disease, on Tuesday, we told you about Cat Pawsitive’s National High-Five Day contest, on Wednesday, cat behaviorist Mikel Delgado answered reader questions, on Thursday, we featured an adorable Happy Cat Kitchen Set, and on Friday, we reviewed Choosing to Be: Lessons in Living from a Feline Zen Master.

I recently came across this older video of Ruby enjoying the spring breezes coming in through the screen – this was taken about a month after I adopted her, so we was about nine or ten months old. Enjoy!

Have a great weekend!

What a great place for a cat to live, with all those beds and spots to sleep on! Sean

I love shop cats. I’ll go someplace or use their service if I know they have a shop cat.
