Yesterday, we featured our choices for the 10 best cat products of 2017. Today, I’m announcing my choice for Best Cat Product of the Year.

The Assisi Loop

We’ve covered the Assisi Loop many times this year, featuring cats who’ve been helped with anything from arthritis to hind-end lameness to recovery from major surgery. I believe that this product is one of the most important innovations in the feline health field that I’ve seen in quite some time. With so few safe pain control options available for cats, this device is a game changer when it comes to managing feline pain.

How the Assisi Loop Works

The Assisi Loop, created by Assisi Animal Health, is a non-pharmaceutical, non-invasive device provides targeted pulsed electromagnetic field therapy (tPEMF™). tPEMF, which was first studied in the 1970s and is FDA-cleared for use in humans, uses low-level pulses of electromagnetic energy to stimulate the body’s own healing mechanisms to help relieve pain and swelling. This therapy can benefits cats with pain associated with arthritis, pancreatitis, wounds, or post-surgical swelling as well as many inflammatory conditions. The Loop is well tolerated by most cats. In fact, many cats really enjoy receiving Loop treatments. Because the Loop stimulates the body’s own healing process, rather than introducing a new substance (like a medication), even a sensitive cat body can handle it easily.

The Loop’s most famous patient

The Loop’s most famous patient is Lil BUB. BUB was born with several genetic mutations, including a shorter lower jaw and no teeth. She also has dwarfism, which means she will stay kitten-sized for her entire life, and she is the only cat in recorded history born with a rare bone condition called “osteopetrosis”. When BUB began to lose mobility and soon was hardly able to walk, her “dude,” Mike Bridavsky, was worried that she might have to be euthanized. Mike heard about the Loop from a fan, and was shocked by the improvement in BUB after he began using it. Now, BUB has gone from being practically immobile to playing, running, jumping, and climbing the stairs.

Bub’s “dude,” Mike Bridavsky, talks about how the Loop helped Bub:

      • The Loop, which I believe needs a prescription from your vet, costs $279 and offers a minimum of 150 15-minute treatments. Which means you’ll be replacing it for an elderly dog or cat who may need relief for the rest of his or her life. It sounds like a wonderful device but may not be affordable or all.

  1. I am looking into getting this for my cat to reduce the pain of a broken leg that she sustained in May of 2017. I have tried pain meds but if she needs pain management for the rest of her life i think this would be the best option.
