I see a lot of new products each year. Between what I saw at Global Pet Expo in March, and the dozens of products that were sent to me over the course of the year, it’s probably safe to say that I’ve seen thousands of pet products in 2016. Allegra and Ruby have been busy helping me review many of them for you throughout the year. With so many products, it’s really hard to choose only 10 favorites, but with the help of my two product testers, we’ve come up with this list (presented in no particular order.)
Comfy Clamshell from the Jackson Galaxy Collection by Petmate
This versatile bed that can go from cozy hideaway to lounging pad is paws down Ruby’s favorite product of the year. There hasn’t been a day since I first put it out in June that she hasn’t napped on it at least once a day, often multiple times a day. The Comfy Clamshell features a soft plush inside, and a durable polyester outside. To turn it into a cat bed, simply tighten the rope that goes around the outer perimeter, and then tuck the extra rope away into a cleverly designed pocket to keep it out of the way. To turn it back into a soft lounge pad, just undo the fastener and loosen the rope until the bed lays flat. The Comfy Clamshell is available from Amazon with free shipping for Prime members.
The Cat Ladder
There’s no question that cats love to climb. Vertical space in the form of cat trees and cat shelves is critical to providing an enriched environment for indoor cats. The Cat Ladder addresses this need in a way that’s creative, functional, and beautiful – and most of all, it lends itself to endless possibilities in any home of any size. For more information about the Cat Ladder, some great photos of the many ways in which it can be used, and to purchase, please visit http://www.CatLadder.com.
The Hauspanther Collection by Primetime Petz
This fantastic collection, designed by Hauspanther’s Kate Benjamin, features four pieces: the Catchall, a multi-function wall-mounted cat scratcher and perch with a plush toy below and toy storage inside, two wall mounted perches, and the Cubitat multi-level cat bed. The entire Hauspanther Collection is available from Amazon with free shipping on eligible orders.
Hide and Sneak Paper Tunnel
Sometimes, the best toys are the simplest ones, and what cat doesn’t like paper bags? The folks at Dezi & Roo have taken this concept just a little further and created the Hide and Sneak Paper Tunnel. This expandable tunnel made from the same material as brown paper bags will provide hours of entertainment and fun for your cats. The tunnel ships flat, and easily expands to a generously sized 12″ x 12″ x 32.5″ with openings on both ends. The end panels are reinforced with cardboard. The Hide and Sneak Paper Tunnel is available from Dezi & Roo.
Vesper Cat Furniture
I have been a fan of the Vesper line of furniture from Hagen ever since I first saw it at Superzoo in Las Vegas two years ago. We own and love some of this furniture, and it gets used by Allegra and Ruby ever single day. This year, Hagen introduced the Vesper Play & More Feline Furniture Series, a smaller version of the existing line. Vesper Play items for kittens and cats combine aesthetic, compact design and functionality. The entire line of Vesper furniture is available from Amazon with free shipping on eligible orders.
SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder
Do you have a cat who gobbles up his own meal and then steals everyone else’s food? Do you have a cat who needs to eat a diet that’s different from what everyone else in your household eats? Does the dog eat your cat’s food? The SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder may solve these problems for you. The feeder reads a cat’s veterinarian-inserted microchip or a RIFD collar tag to determine whether or not to let the cat inside. When the feeder is not in use, the food compartment is covered with a clear lid. As the cat approaches the feeder, it reads the cat’s chip and the lid retracts. For more information about the SureFeed Microchip Pet Feeder, and to purchase, please visit SureFlap.com. Get a 25% discount if you purchase two or more feeders with code HUNGRYCATS, discount valid through December 31, 2016.

The SmartCat Ultimate Scratch ‘n Play
The SmartCat Ultimate Scratching Post has been a favorite at our house for many years, and now this classic got even better: with the SmartCat Ultimate Scratch ‘N Play, it combines the functionality and beautiful design of this scratcher with the addition of a puzzle toy at the bottom of the post. The Ultimate Scratch ‘N Play is available from Amazon with free shipping for Prime members.
Kitty Cat Condos
I first saw Kitty Cat Condos at Global Pet Expo in Orlando in March. These stunning cat condos were hard to miss, even in an exhibit hall the size of five football fields filled with pet products. Created by Robert Lang, a cat lover from Australia who refused to buy low quality and unappealing cat furniture, these unique Kitty Cat Walls are custom built to create an indoor paradise for your feline family members. Wet Whiskers Fountains
Fountains are a great way to encourage cats to drink more water. Water is critical to keeping your cat healthy. Even though cats get moisture from a raw or canned diet, they should still have plenty of fresh water available at all times. And what could be better than something that is not just good for your cats, but also adds beauty to your home? The fountains from Wet Whiskers Fountains are not just functional and well made, they’re small works of art.
