Pilling cats can be challenging. One option that can make the process easier is using empty gel caps. Since they’re capsules, they slide down the cat’s esophagus easily. They are especially useful for cats who are taking multiple medications at the same time: simply open the capsule, put all the meds in the capsule together, and administer. Instead of having to give multiple pills, you only have to pill your cat once.
Gel caps also avoid the dangers of “dry pilling” (giving pills without following with a syringe full of water) a practice that can cause serious damage to the delicate lining of the esophagus.
Capsuline CATcaps: flavored gel caps for cats
Capsuline, a manufacturer of hardshell gelatin, vegetable and flavored capsules, has taken the gel cap concept one step further and has added flavoring to the capsules, making administration even easier. CATcaps are available in chicken and beef flavor.

July 13, 2016 at 9:18 am (5 years ago)My cat is on several meds per day for chronic issues. He is very good about taking pills and sometimes reminds me when it’s time. I have been using plain gel caps. Sometimes to give 2 pills at one time and sometimes just to prevent him from the taste of a nasty flavored pill especially if it is cut. Either way, he gets 5 capsules per day. I love the idea of flavored gel caps to make it that much nicer for my sweet boy.

July 13, 2016 at 6:10 am (5 years ago)I think this would be a great easy way to get meds into my furbaby. She don’t like her meds as is, she’s like a fussy toddler only a cat lol

July 9, 2016 at 9:52 pm (5 years ago)This is a really great idea. Giving my cat a pill is like trying to get the pill down a snarling and squirming ball of fur. You are actually risking injury to yourself. I always ask the vet in case there is a liquid form of the medication available.

July 7, 2016 at 7:09 pm (5 years ago)Dry pilling is a huge problem with cats, but another is that many medications are extremely bitter and make subsequent pilling difficult, if not impossible. These would definitely solve that problem!

July 7, 2016 at 10:54 am (5 years ago)We lost our senior Maine Coon, Koneko, back in February. I always had to struggle to give him his medications while he was still here, and we have two other cats….well, actually three, since I just rescued a tiny kitten yesterday and we plan on keeping her. I know that through their lives, there will be times we need to give them medicine, and anything that helps with that will help keep them happy and healthy. So, winning these would be great.

July 7, 2016 at 10:29 am (5 years ago)My senior cat with kidney disease gets mirtazapine every other day to help her eat and drink enough to stay healthy as she’s an extremely picky eater naturally. Pilling her is impossible – even in a towel – because she holds the pill in her mouth for a long time and spits it out. I have to follow her around if I’m even successful in getting it in. So I’ve been putting it into a gel cap (because it’s bitter) and hiding it in her food which is usually successful, although it sometimes takes more than one try. I think having flavored gel caps would make it work so much better, although I wish they came in a smaller size (I currently use size 5). But I’m willing to try size 3 and in fact am going to order some, but I hope to win anyway.

July 7, 2016 at 5:50 am (5 years ago)My cat Fou needs Lysine crushed up and put into his food because he has feline herpes which causes an ulcer to form on his eye without it. The problem is that Fou often avoids his food and picks off of thr other cats’ food. In addition, due to life circumstances, I am staying in a home where the feeding style and schedule is radically different from how I fed him, making it even more difficult to administer his meds to him. These capsules would help me out a lot. I wouldn’t have to be as meticulous as I am about a feeding schedule. In addition, it would mean Fou wouldn’t have to eat little bits of crushed up pill with his food.
