Mews and Nips: San Antonio College Cares for Feral Cats

San-Antonio-feral-cats

At San Antonio College in San Antonio, TX, faculty and staff encourage the campus to responsibly care for feral cats. Scattered feline aid stations throughout the campus provide food and water for colonies of feral cats that call this college home. Vernell Walker, dean of professional and technical education, started feeding the cats about a year ago. “It just looked like they were starving; they looked so thin and they’d be following folks,” Walker said. For more about this caring college and the resident cats, read the full story on The Ranger.

If you missed any of the stories featured on the Conscious Cat this week, here’s a recap: on Monday, we featured part one of our two part interview with Dr. Tony Buffington, one of the most influential veterinarians when it comes to environmental enrichment for cats, on Tuesday, we reviewed the amazing Catit Oasis, on Wednesday, I shared my New York City cat sitting adventures, on Friday, we reviewed Gwen Cooper’s new book, Homer: The Ninth Life of a Blind Wondercat and informed you of a pet food recall by Bravo Pet Foods. And don’t forget to enter our giveaway for a UJI Tunnel System from Neko Flies!

Your kitties are probably already busy helping you get ready for the holidays, but just in case they need a little advice, Cole and Marmalade offer this Cat’s Guide to Christmas. Enjoy!

So wonderful to know the college I attended is caring for community cats! And the San Antonio Feral Cat Coalition is an awesome group of volunteers whose passion is caring for free-roaming cats — they’re the reason I was able to trap and fix a colony I now care for. Thank you for sharing this good news story, it restores my faith in humanity when I hear about people caring for God’s creatures.

This is an encouraging story. I love when young people do good things for cats. I also enjoyed Cole & Marmalade’s Christmas video.
