Earlier this year, I had a chance to see the Amazing Acro-Cats, featuring over a dozen beautiful rescue cats who perform tricks ranging from walking on tightropes and balls to jumping through hoops to bowling and ringing bells. I also had a chance to speak with Samantha before the show and meet the cats. From the moment I met her, I knew I had encountered a kindred spirit. You can read all about my experience here.
Samantha, the cats and their human staff, are devoted to promoting cat-training awareness and supporting feline adoption and rescue across the country. They travel thousands of miles a year on their mission to show cat lovers how to improve their relationship with their cats. Samantha works with rescue groups across the country by taking adoptable kittens on the road. Since 2009, she has found homes for more than 150 cats.
Samantha and the cats tour the country in a retrofitted 1963 GM bus, and while it has served the troupe well, it has left them stranded by the side of the road one too many times. Samantha launched a Kickstarter campaign to finance a newer and more reliable tour bus for the troupe.
Although a brand new bus is most likely out of reach unless a seriously major backer contributes, a late model tour bus, designed for use by traveling bands, would be within their reach and purrfectly suited to house and transport the troupe’s former orphans, rescues, strays and human staff.
You can learn more about Samantha and the cats (and see wonderful photos of the cats) on their campaign page. The Acro-Cats are offering some wonderful perks for backers, ranging from a pawtographed postcard from Tuna, the star of the show, to naming the bus.
