I’m excited to announce that my new book, Tortitude: The BIG Book About Cats with a BIG Attitude, will publish on February 5, 2016.
This book has been a true labor of love for me. In addition to facts about torties, the book features stunning photographs and quotes dedicated to these beautiful cats. Ultimately, Tortitude is a tribute to these special cats and their passionate guardians.
The book features a foreword by Kate Benjamin, Founder of Hauspanther and New York Times bestselling co-author of Catification: Designing a Happy and Stylish Home for Your Cat (and You!) and Catify to Satisfy: Simple Solutions for Creating a Cat-Friendly Home.
Advance Praise for Tortitude from Jackson Galaxy
“To call torties misunderstood would be the understatement of the year; the misinformed and un-initiated might just see them as moody, grouchy or mean! In this book, Ingrid brings all of her talent, skill and heart to the job of setting the tortie record straight. Anybody who has had the honor of sharing their life with a tortie owes Ingrid a debt of gratitude, because she has taken the stereotype, turned it on its head, and opened the world’s eyes to the true meaning of tortitude.”
I have a Tortie called Crumb. We rescued her from a house that abused and neglected her. I’m the only human she tolerates, and will spend many hours laying with me on the bed…but always on her terms. Having had cats all my life,I can definately vouch for ‘tortitude’ She’s standoffish, headstrong, and only does things she wants to do.The only time she shows any true affection is at night when it’s time for bed. She’s also spoilt rotten, especially by me, and Id say she owns me, not the other way around! But we both love her to bits, and she makes the house we live in a home. I feel especially close to her because I know what she went through as a kitten. She’s now 4 and a half and is my pride and joy.
Crumb does sound like she’s got some major tortitude! 🙂
I have a tortie and she bites all the time except for night night time. She turns to an angel. She absolutely does not want to be petted. I’ve had all kinds of cats but she’s exceptionally challenging. Any sugguestions.
What you’re probably seeing is either petting aggression http://consciouscat.net/2016/04/04/cope-correct-petting-aggression-cats/ or play aggression: http://consciouscat.net/2016/04/13/prevent-correct-play-aggression-cats/ Try all the tips offered in these articles and you’ll most likely see the behavior stop.
