When it comes to scratchers, more is better. And while most cats will develop a preference for a certain type of scratcher, you never really know whether your cats will like a particular scratcher until you let them give it a try.

I had a feeling Allegra and Ruby were going to love The Double Sided Scratcher from The Meow Mommy, and I wasn’t wrong. I could barely get it out of its plastic shrink wrap before Allegra gave it a go, as you can see in the video below.

At 3 inches, this scratcher is nice and thick, and the cardboard is sturdy, which I expect will make it last for quite some time. One side has a wavy design, the other side is straight. It comes with a pack of catnip, but I didn’t even have to use it to get the girls to use the scratcher. If you do use catnip, be aware that it will fall through the scratcher, so if that bothers you, you may want to keep a rug or blanket underneath.

Ruby thought the scratcher was the coolest new toy she’d seen in a while, she rolled all over it and proceeded to thoroughly “mark it” as hers, after Allegra had given it the initial scratching test.

I love having a variety of different scratchers around the house, and this new addition has quickly become a favorite of both girls, and gets daily use.

  1. there have been numerous styles, fabrics & iterations of scratchers
in this household over nearly 40 years. All I can say is, I wish the packets
of catnip enclosed – weren’t, or have them an optional purchase. Some cats do
not react well to/handle catnip, and when packaged together, the sent is still transferred
to the scratcher and does not matter if it is in its own pouch/packet. Or at least I wish the scratcher
only were available, without the exposure to the catnip during manufacturing/storage/shipping etc. Now I have a feel for what moms of severely allergic children go through to protect them from school lunchtimes!

  2. That scratcher looks really awesome! We have lots of cardboard scratchers here, but they are getting old – in fact, in kitten terms they are ancient!
