Giveaway: Win a $50 Whole Foods Gift Card and Try Whole Paws Cat Food

Whole_Paws_pet_food

I do most of my food shopping at Whole Foods, so when I started to see some of their advertising for their Whole Paws line of pet food, I was very curious. I particularly enjoyed their “Love is a Four-Legged Word” teaser campaign at the cash registers. But of course, cute marketing does not tell you anything about the food being advertised. I was very interested to see whether Whole Paws would meet my requirements for what constitutes species appropriate nutrition for cats.

Thankfully, Whole Foods didn’t disappoint. Whole Paws is made with real meat and contains no corn or soy, no animal by-products, no artificial colors, no artificial preservatives and no added sugar. All of the canned varieties are grain free. Poultry ingredients are sourced from North America, lamb is sourced from either Australia or New Zealand. The diets are manufactured in either the US or Canada. I couldn’t get a definitive answer on whether the cans are BPA free. Currently, 40% of canned store brand goods sold at Whole Foods are non-BPA, and plans are being developed to transition to non-BPA cans.

Some of the flavors contain carrageenan, which I would prefer not to see in a cat food. The available grain free flavors are Shredded Chicken Dinner in Gravy, Shredded Whitefish, Chicken & Tuna Dinner in Gravy, Shredded Salmon & Chicken Dinner in Gravy, Grain Free Turkey, Chicken & Giblets Dinner, Grain Free Beef & Chicken Dinner, and Grain Free Chicken & Whitefish Dinner.

Since I don’t feed fish or beef to Allegra and Ruby, we tried the Shredded Chicken Dinner in Gravy, and the Turkey, Chicken and Giblets dinner. Ruby loved both, Allegra didn’t care for either of them. Oddly enough, Ruby is usually the more fussy one when it comes to trying new foods.

Whole Foods offered up a $5o gift card for one lucky winner to try Whole Paws.

Kala and Maya don’t eat fish or beef either so either shredded chicken, grain free turkey or chicken and giblets would be awesome. 🙂

I bought the Shredded Chicken Dinner in Gravy for my IBD cat (because it’s both grain-free and carrageenan-free) and I’m happy to say that he LOVES it! He is a very picky boy, so I am very pleased that he likes it. And the price is such a bargain compared to other premium canned cat food!

my cat would like the flavor of outdoor road kill like wild bird or squirrel i’m sure and i’m not joking either. sometimes he’s indifferent to like seafood/fish flavors but loves chicken and turkey so i’m sure any other fowl would be tasty to him.
