When you share your life with cats, cat hair is a fact of life – and one that most of us embrace proudly. But it also means that most of us are constantly on the lookout for products that help us combat cat hair, whether it’s on clothes, bedding or furniture.
I was intrigued when a Conscious Cat reader told me about the Chom Chom Roller, and asked the company to send me one to review.
The ChomChom Roller is an internationally patented device that is said to pick up deeply embedded hair and fragments in sofas, carpets, car seats, beds, curtains and more. According to the manufacturer, moving the ChomChom Roller back and forth creates an electrostatic charge that attracts the hairs to the roller.
I put the roller to the test on the two spots on my sofa where Ruby likes to sleep. There’s quite a bit of cat hair there, and I’m not always too terribly diligent about removing it. The roller worked great! A few passes over the area, and the cat hair was gone.
I also used the roller on carpet, along the baseboards were cat hair tends to collect, and the vacuum cleaner doesn’t reach it unless you use one of the attachments. I was amazed how much hair the roller picked up, even though it was a bit awkward to move it along the baseboards.
The hair is collected in a little compartment inside the roller. To empty it, you simply flip open the lid and dump the collected hair in the trash.
It works great, and what I really like about this roller is that you don’t need to purchase refills, like you do with the typical pet hair rollers. There’s no need for batteries or a power source. I think it’s great for cleaning up furniture: it’s quick, it’s quiet, and it actually takes less time than it would to get out the vacuum cleaner and hook up a furniture attachment.
I give this roller two thumbs up, and I think if Allegra and Ruby cared about removing cat hair (which I’m pretty sure they don’t…), they would give it four paws up – because unlike the evil vacuum monster, this little gadget makes no noise whatsoever!
