The Cat Sitter mystery series, featuring Dixie Hemingway, a pet sitter who lives on one of the Florida keys, has been a favorite of mine ever since the cover of the first book in the series, Curiosity Killed the Cat Sitter, caught my eye.  The series was authored by Blaize Clement, and after she passed away in 2011, her son, John Clement, continued the series. Blaize had been collaborating on plots and characters for future novels with John.

The Cat Sitter’s Cradle is the latest in the series. Do covers get any more adorable than this one?

From the publisher:

No mission is impawsible for pet sitter Dixie Hemingway (no relation to you-know-who). On an early morning walk, she spots an exotic bird rarely seen north of the equator, much less in the sleepy beach-side town of Siesta Key, Florida. At first, Dixie thinks the bird has been blown off course by a terrible storm, but as she digs deeper into where the bird came from, Dixie becomes increasingly suspicious of its origins. When one client is found dead and a new friend and her baby disappear without warning, Dixie is pulled into a whirlwind of greed, deception, and danger. The eighth in this popular cozy series, John Clement and Blaize Clement’s The Cat Sitter’s Cradle, will keep both newcomers and loyal Dixie fans perched on the edge of their seats.

“Perched on the edge of your seat” doesn’t even begin to describe just how good this book is. Let me warn you right now: do not start this book unless you have a good chunk of uninterrupted time available. I found it really hard to put down, and some chores were left undone until after I finished it.

I love everything about this book: a tightly plotted mystery, interesting characters, and a beautiful setting. I like Dixie more with each book in the series. For me, one of the best parts of reading series mysteries is following the development of the protagonist, and the Clements have done a masterful job with Dixie. And it’s rare that a mystery series ends with a cliffhanger involving the protagonist, but this one does. You’ll just have to read the book to find out what I’m talking about.

56 Comments on Review and Giveaway: The Cat Sitter’s Cradle by Blaize and John Clement

  1. Love the cat sitter mystery series. I am so glad that Blaise’s son is continuing to write them. I appreciate the opportunity to win a free copy. I “re-read he first 2 as digital audiobooks and will the rest of the series when available. I enjoy the series that much as I normally don’t read mysteries a second time. The audiobooks were almost even better than the print. Having said that, I’ll still want to read the latest, The Cat Sitter’s Cradle, very soon! It’s hardback (sorry, budget restriction) so I’m on my library’s waiting list for this one.

  2. I really enjoyed this book and as usual I didn’t want to put it down once I started reading. I do have one negative comment.

(Editor’s note: minor spoiler alert follows as Judy explains what she didn’t like.)

I didn’t like how Charlotte was left hanging without a home. It would have been nice if she was in a new home by the end of the book. Other than that it is a two thumbs up for me.

  3. I found the first of these books on audible about a month ago, and am now caught up! Would love to continue the series with this book.

  4. I borrowed from the library, but would love my own, esp. autographed.

Life is good — and so is _The Cat Sitter’s Cradle_ It’s a very good sign when everything else in life is put on hold in favor of a book . . . this one passed that test. I celebrated the glorious finish by cooking a much-delayed breakfast (wishing I had a brother Michael to cook feasts for me). Well done, John Clement for continuing Blaize’s legacy so well.

  5. I LOVE the Dixie Hemingway books. I am reading Cat Sitter on a Hot Tin Roof right now, and it is wonderful! 🙂

Thank you SO much for the generous giveaway!

  8. A mystery where a cat is one of the main characters? What could be better for a avid reader who loves her eight furry babies? I’d love to win this book! 🙂

  9. I’d like to win for two reasons: 1) it sounds like a great book and 2) that cover is just so cute!

Please delete the previous — I had a case of premature commentation. 🙂

  10. I love Cat mysteries and this fine series sounds truly awesome! I never would have known about it until my friend Sue told me!! My friends are the “Best!”

Please enter me to win. Blessings & Joy to you~~~

  11. I have loved every book in the cat sitter series, which I only found thanks to your book reviews. You haven’t steered me wrong on any of your reviews. Keep them coming! So sorry to hear about Blaize Clement’s death, but so glad her son is able to continue on for her!! Would love to win an autographed copy. Thanks for the opportunity, Ingrid.

  12. I was lucky to find this little gem of a series. Some great reading. I would love a chance to win this book. Thanks for the giveaway.

  13. Honestly, I hope to win a copy of this book to donate to Western Iowa’s Feral Cat Program for one of their fund-raising Auctions. WIFCaP is one of my all-time favorite feline advocacy groups. They are a “non-profit organization helping feral and free-roaming cats in Western Iowa” and started with basically nothing/grass roots with the following mission: “To trap, neuter, vaccinate and return (TNR) back into the community, feral cats in the Western Iowa Region. After spay or neutering, to supply food and shelter to our colony of kitties. To educate people on the importance of spay or neutering pets. If requested, referral to other agencies or shelters for rehoming of strays or kittens.” WIFCaP relies on finding (and hoping to receive) small grants, donations, and proceeds from Auctions and eBay and Etsy listings. So I do hope so much to wind a copy of this fantastic book and pay it forward to benefit WIFCaP. Thank you

  19. A cat mystery series that I don’t know anything about?!? How could that be, since I thought that I’ve read them all! Well, now I have to start and I would certainly enjoy a copy of this book. Not only am I a cat lover, but the Florida Keys (and Key West) are my favorite vacation spot.

  20. Love to read, love mysteries, and love cats. What else is needed. I’d love to win a copy of this book. Will have to see about getting some other copies of the series.

  21. I absolutely loved Blaize Clement’s Dixie Hemingway series and was devastated when I learned of her death, not only because of her writing but because the earth lost a great advocator of cat’s in general and a good lady.
I was thrilled to learn that before her death Blaize had collaborated with her son John to continue this wonderful series. The stories are always “edge of your seat” thrilling and leave it to Blaize and John to leave us wanting more. I would love to win this newest entry in the Dixie Hemingway Cat Sitter series and to have John Clement’s autograph is even better!!! I loved your mother!! Thank you for the offer Ingrid.

  22. Would love to win a copy of this book, I love reading, I love cats…do I need any other reason to want this??? 🙂 It also sounds really good!
