Mews and Nips: Kitten Bowl Coming to Hallmark Channel in 2014

Cat lovers everywhere will get to have more fun next year on Super Bowl Sunday. Instead of having to make do with a measly 15 minute kitten fix with the Kitten Halftime Show during Animal Planet’s annual Puppy Bowl, we’ll all be in for a real treat: The Hallmark Channel announced last week that it will hold the first Kitten Bowl on Super Bowl Sunday in 2014. Beginning 9 a.m. PT/12 p.m. ET on Feb. 2, 2014, Hallmark Channel’s three-hour Kitten Bowl — presented in conjunction with the American Humane Association — will feature adoptable kittens in competition. The concept of cat cafes has ben popular in Japan for quite some time, and ABC News reports that the UK is expected welcome its first cat cafe in London soon. Lady Dinah’s Cat Emporium is the brainchild of Lauren Pears, an Australian who raised $140,000 through crowd funding, according to her blog. In a fundraising video, Pears said a cat cafe is “just like a regular cafe. It sells coffee, tea, cakes and snacks. The only difference is that it is full of cats.” With cat cafes opening in Austria and Russia in the past year, maybe there’s hope for the conecpt to take hold in the US soon. If you missed any of the stories featured on The Conscious Cat this week, here’s a recap: On Monday, we provided information about an insidious feline cancer, known as injection-site sarcoma; on Tuesday, we reviewed an amazing little air purifier called the Critterzone; on Wednesday, Clea Simon brought us a wonderful guest post about how she created one of her fictional feline characters; and on Friday, we reviewed Helen Brown’s inspirational new memoir, Cats and Daughters.  We also shared news about another petfood recall affecting three of Bravo!’s frozen products. And don’t forget to enter our giveaway for a Sleeky Lounge from Brawny Cat!

Today’s video from a cat cafe in Tokyo, Japan was sent to me by a friend. I can’t wait for one of these to open in the US!

Have a great weekend!

Maybe next year we can have a kitty cafe at BlogPaws? I love dogs, too, but it sure would be fun to get take the cats out once in awhile!

Wouldn’t that be fun, Jobi and Fisher! But we have something even better at BlogPaws: the Hauspanther Lounge! And if last year’s lounge was any indication, it wasn’t just humans who were visiting… 🙂

But they still live with their mother–aren’t they still kittens? Please, find something for them to do! ~Mimi

Seriously, I can see cat cafés as an incredible opportunity for adult cat adoptions here in the US. I can’t wait for someone to set the standard here, as long as we can overcome FDA regulations about animals in places where food is served.

    Lovely links as always!
We love the cat cafes ideas! My human is doing some research on that (I think she has, like we say in French, “an idea behind her head” – I’m not sure it translate so well though;-).
    Have a great weekend!

That kitten bowl sounds great to us. I suppose we’re too old to participate.

    Have a great day.

You probably don’t qualify, Bugsy and Knuckles, but think of the fun you’ll have watching it!
