Mews and Nips: House Cat Encounters Mountain Lion

cat and mountain lion

What would you do if you looked out your window and  saw a mountain lion? That’s what happened to a homeowner in Boulder, CO. Live with Cats reported that a young mountain lion came to the glass doors of the deck of a home, where he  encountered Jack, the 11-year-old resident Maine Coon cat, on the other side of the glass. Jack remained calm through the entire “visit” and didn’t even back down when the mountain lion snarled. Please visit Live with Cats for more photos of this close encounter.

cats falling laws of physics

We know cats are mysterious creatures, but they still have to obey the laws of physics. It is well known that cats usually land on their feet, even when they fall from very high places. Scientists have tried repeatedly to figure out how they manage to do it. The Guardian newspaper reports on several studies that have attempted to understand this particular feline mystery. Scientists also looked into the body mechanics of stealthy walking in cats. Read more about these studies on the Guardian website.

blind cat returns home after one year

Our heartwarming story of the week is about Sammie, a blind cat who returned to her human after a year-long internet search. Sammie went missing in Brooklyn, NY last October. His human never gave up hope. She covered her neighborhood with flyers in multiple languages and put notices in the New York Daily News. The cat’s picture was also splashed across the internet, with Facebook pages created in Sammie’s name. Read the full story on the New York Daily News website.

Today’s video features a very talented cat playing basket ball. Watch out Kobe Bryant, you may have some serious competition here!

Have a great weekend!

Good thing that door didn’t have a cat flap! Thank goodness there’s no end to wonderful cat stories like blind Sammie, a true miracle kitty. I feel that every day there are freshly minted cat lovers.

Wow… that Maine Coon is one cool cucumber – our cats go insane if they see a tiny lizard – I can’t imagine them being that calm if a mountain lion was starring at them! So happy to hear Sammie was reunited with his owner and I love the basketball kitty! It reminds me so much of my sweet Peanut!

I don’t know how my two would have reacted to the mountain lion, Deb. I’m guessing Allegra would hide, and Ruby would want to play with him.
