Mews and Nips: Miraculous Reunion

black and white feral cat

We have a couple of stories with happy endings for today’s round up. Our first story comes from Care2 about a black and white kitten who played peek-a-boo with the man who tried to rescue her from a loading dock in an industrial area in Illinois. Today, Valentina enjoys life in her forever home with the man and his family, and she’s paying her good fortune forward by being a surrogate mom to every orphaned kitten the family has rescued since. Read Valentina’s full story, Factory Cat Tries Peek-a-Boo with Man Attempting Rescue.

Willow the cat who was lost in Colorado and found in New York City made news two weeks ago.  This week, Mousebreath reported on another amazing reunion in England. Ian Kirkwood’s family had lost Shar Chi, a brown tabby, six years earlier. He went online to look for a new feline family member, when he found Shar Chi’s face staring back at him. After comparing photos side by side, he knew that he had found his lost cat. Shar Chi was not wearing a collar and did not have a microchip, which is probably why Mousebreath titled the story Coincidence Reuites Family With Lost Cat Six Years Later. I don’t believe in coincidences. Clearly, Shar Chi was meant to be back with his original family.

cat with two faces Janus cat

The biggest cat story of the week was probably the story of 12-year-old Frank and Louie, the Janus cat who was entered into the Guiness Book of World Records for being the longest living cat of his kind. Janus cats are named after the Roman god with two faces. Cats who are born with this rare birth defect usually don’t live very long; most die within a few hours after birth. Life with Cats was one of the few media outlets I found who covered this story without resorting to sensationalizing the freakishness of this condition. Instead, they feature a touching video of Frank and Louie with his human.

And what would Saturday be without a cute cat video? I promise you that today’s video about a kitten’s first few weeks in his new home contain so much cute, you won’t be able to stand it! I particularly like the power nap about 55 seconds into the video.

Have a great weekend!
