Mews and Nips: Cat Waits for Guardian at Railroad Station

cat train station waiting Melbourne Australia

My favorite story of the week comes from Australia. Graeme the cat visits a Melbourne train station twice a day to drop off and pick up his owner. Could this be the feline version of Hachi: A Dog’s Story, starring Richard Geere? Watch the complete video of the feline trainspotter.

Swedish kitten rescued from pipe

The heartwarming story of the week comes from Sweden. Rescue workers successfully rescued a kitten trapped in a concrete tube for two days. I don’t speak Swedish, but just watching the video of the rescue gives you a pretty good idea that this was not a simple process and involved a lot of man power and technology. This kitten probably used up at least one of its nine lives!

cat hiking Appalachian Trail

The story of a kitten hiking the Appalacian Trail has to be one of the most unusual cat stories of the week. When 23-year-old former Marine “Magic Mix” (his trail name) began hiking the trail in Georgia, the only thing on his mind was to complete hiking the entire trail. But after a few days by himself, he got lonely, so he got off the trail and went on Craig’s List, where he found  a silky black kitten he named Sir. He stayed in town an extra day to get Sir checked out by a veterinarian.

By the time Sir and Magic Mix reached the end of the trail in New Hampshire, they had developed a strong bond. Sir spent most of his time sitting on his backpack cushion; when he wanted to get down, he nudged Magic Mix with his nose or a paw. They carried some dry food for Sir, but mostly he caught his own — mice and beetles at campsites. Read Magic Mix and Sir’s full story on the AMC website.

And of course, Mews and Nip wouldn’t be complete without a video. Today’s selection is proof that to a kitten, everything is a toy.

Have a great weekend!

It is impossible not to smile when you watch a kitten being a kitten! Thank you for my Caturday smile! I loved the story of the hiker who adopted a cat to have a companion!
